Areth had never seen her commanding officer this worried. And he was in the force much longer than her. As far as she knew, he had entered into Service twenty-two years ago and was immediately drafted into the Cadian 117th where he'd serve 8 years and then move on to serving with the Kasrkin for another two years before returning home and taking command of the Ranger Division.

All of that and he still was scared shitless right now. Areth had of course no idea what she was getting herself into but she was worried too. Having never served outside of Errossian territory she had no idea what dangers the larger Imperium had to face. Both of them stood together in the front of their Taurox and watched at the Auspex monitor. They were pushed back at every possible front. There were too many of them.
Romash pointed towards a point on the Map.
,,Move the 4th Battallion, 22nd, 24th and 92nd Companies to the southernmost Munitions depot. And move all Airborne Rangers away from the City centre. Destroy all unnecessary weapons stockpiles. We can't let them have any of our weapons or armoured vehicles."
,,Understood." came the first answer.
,,Copy." came the second.
,,Affirmative." the third and the last just gave a static clicking.
,,Alright then gentlemen, lets go." The communications array turned off and the map was just sitting there while they looked at their lines receding ever further away from the city centre. Even the local Sororitas had been overrun. And that was a reason to worry since there had been weapons and tanks at their monastery.
He banged at the front of the truck. One of the drivers opened the door. While Romash was giving them their new target destination, Areth turned towards the remaining men in the APC. They looked tired and worn out. The Autoguns in their hands looked as if they were glued into place instead of them actually holding the weapons tightly.
Romash turned back and faced his men.
,,Seems like a communication got out from the Royal Cruiser about our situation. Lets just hope that the Imperium sends a response fleet soon."
,,You know what we're dealing with Colonel. So tell us, do we stand a chance?" asked the front most soldier.
On Romash's face laid a stone-cold expression of tiredness.
,,No, not even in the slightest. That's why we need to detonate the Munitions should they be overrunning our position before the reinforcements arrive."
,,So, fifty-fifty." joked another Soldier.
,,You have no idea what the Necrons are capable of." he almost shouted. He looked absolutely livid so the soldier quickly adjusted his manner and laid on a stoic face.
The Taurox suddenly came to an abrupt halt.
,,What's going on?" the Colonel asked.
,,Sir, there is something obstructing the road. Something metallic."
,,Show me!" he commanded.
Seconds later a visual came up on the screen. And his face went pale white.
,,What is that?" asked Areth.
,,Kill it.", he said without answering her question, ,,KILL IT NOW." he screamed. But as the  gunner tried to take aim it was already gone.
,,Where is it?" the man asked before something tore the turret straight off and ripped a hole into the Taurox' hull.
There, directly above them stood a hunchback-looking figure with a single green eye and a metallic carrapace. On its arms were two gigantic blades with which it tried to take a swing at the rangers.
All seven of them opened fire with their Autoguns but the shots seemed to do absolutely nothing to it. So, when her magazine was empty, Areth reached for the Ripper Gun, lying in a weapons locker near the front. She only barely dodged one of the machines blade-swings. She opened the locker and pulled out the heavy weapon. Normally it would have been way to heavy for her but the adrenaline seemed to push her over her physical limits as she lifted the weapon up only barely dodging another swing of the mechanical abomination. The trigger-pull was immense and as she had pulled it a massive high explosive shell came flying out and hit the Necron straight into its carrapace. It seemed unfazed. Another soldier came to her side and helped to pull the trigger again and again. Eventually the Machine tumbled back and only held onto the truck with its arm claws.
The Colonel reached for the Ripper guns bayonet and climbed to the top of the truck. He took jab by jab and slowly began hacking at the Necrons exposed joints until the first one was cut off. He tried to take a hit at its other arm but was pushed back and fell into the truck.
Areth took no time and aimed the Ripper at one of its exposed joints and pressed the trigger.
,,Bye, bye Tin Can." she screamed as the Ripper shell tore through its joint and left the Necron falling off the side of the Taurox.
She laid down exhausted and looked at the Colonel.

This had been way too close for comfort. For all of them. And three did not live to see the end of it.
