The sun dipped low on the horizon, casting long shadows through the cobblestone streets of Amaryllis. A crisp autumn breeze rustled the fallen leaves, though today, the peace of the city was shattered. With a rumor of an ominous group known as the Hunters had reached the city of Amaryllis, the guardsmen now searching for a band of ruthless marauders.

Micheal, a seasoned guard and captain of the watch, stood tall at the city’s main gate. His dark hair whipped in the wind as he surveyed the landscape; the walls of Amaryllis had been sturdy for years, but the anxiety that crept into his heart was something he couldn’t shake. His fellow guardsmen Edda, a fiery redhead known for her sharpshooting, and Hal, a jovial giant with a penchant for swordplay, and myself a new face full of naivety stood at attention beside him, casting nervous glances at the wooded outskirts.

Micheal: Listen *his voice steady yet urgent* We don’t know how many there are, but we’ll hold this gate until the villagers can evacuate, we have to. Amaryllis is our home.”

Edda: *tightening her grip around her longbow and nodding* If they breach the walls, they’ll raze the city.

Hal: *feigning a grin, despite the apprehension in the air.* Let them come. I’ve been itching for a good fight! *But the false bravado in his voice barely concealed the anxiety threading through him*

The echoes of rustling leaves and snapping branches sent shivers of dread through me before being able to speak from the corner of my eye, I caught a glimpse of movement, a dark shape darting between the trees, followed by more. Suddenly, with a chilling battle cry, the Hunters burst forth, clad in flat gray cloaks, a swirling cloud of ash masking their approach.

Micheal: Ready your weapons!

The sound of his voice breaking the tense silence. Edda readied an arrow, eyes locked on the enforcers of chaos, while Hal unsheathed his massive sword, ready to engage and I shakingly made sure my crossbow was loaded.

As the Hunters advanced out of the smoke, their leader, a tall figure with a jagged scar running across his face, stepped forward. Seemingly giving commands to his followers before the sky starts to darken.

With a sudden movement, the Hunters charged. Edda released her first arrow, the projectile slicing through the air to snag one of the approaching foes encasing their leg in ice. While that Hunter stopped, the rest lunged toward them with animalistic battle cries.

Micheal swung his sword, the blade meeting flesh and steel in a furious clash. Hal fought like a whirlwind, his mass and strength sending enemies reeling. The days of training had prepared them for this moment, the bond of brotherhood, forged through sweat and toil, rallying their spirits as they defended their city. Whereas I who had barely started was struggling, my hands were shaking constantly making aiming hard and only the effects of the dust used were colliding with the approaching enemy.

Edda’s precision each shot finding a mark among the chaotic fight. She moved fluidly among her comrades, protecting Micheal’s back and letting me make sure Hal was covered. Despite their numerical disadvantage, the four of us fought with every ounce of strength. I was starting to get overwhelmed, slowly letting more and more closer, leaving Hal to start picking up my slack.

In the midst of the clash, Micheal spotted the scarred leader. Fuming with dread, he charged forward, sword raised. The Hunter met him head on, and steel clashed against steel in a duel of wills, both combatants pushing each other to their limits.

Hunter leader: Your city, your people, your family will burn!

Micheal countered with a fierce roar, driving his blade forward with all he had in a swift move, his sword found nothing but air, his adversary still standing sent an attack to Micheals gut getting his ax stuck in Micheal’s armor. With a grunt the leader kicks Micheal away pulling his ax from the damaged steel protecting Micheal.

Edda’s arrows continued to rain down, and Hal swept through the ranks with brutal force, though the enemies seemed to be unending as even with the help of Edda I couldn’t slow the Hunters from getting in and overwhelming Hal.

Micheal tried to get back up but the Scarred man wouldn’t let that happen, though as he drew closer to killing Micheal Edda took a shot keeping him at bay for now.

Hal: There's too many of them I need cover

Edda: I’m trying, just last a little longer *she turns to me* don’t slow down, keep shooting them.

The hunters kept approaching and with Edda still trying to keep Micheal safe Hal ended up getting slashed in his shoulder, backing up and acting more defensively Hal with the occasional shot from me slowly tried approaching Micheal before the leader of the Hunters strikes him in the back before his underlings finish off Hal.

Edda and I kept firing off shots in an attempt to keep them back and give time for Micheal to get back up, before an explosion shakes the wall we are standing on. I jumped off the wall as it started to crumble down making it harder to see what is going on around Amaryllis before I get swarmed by the marauders.

The villagers and I rush out of the village heading out from here and towards Mantel where we might be safe from them for now. Carrying my son with me we start our escape somewhere safe where hopefully my husband and the other guards can escape with us.

We finally made it to Mantel, though we all are greeted by Atlas soldiers that start to take us and put us into groups. Once it became my turn the soldier looked at me before speaking.

Soldier 1: What is your name and the name of the child?

Rebbeca: My name is Rebbeca and my child's name is (y/n)

The soldier glances at another giving a gesture to take me somewhere, as he gets close he goes to take (y/n). I quickly pull away before the first soldier draws his weapon.

Soldier 1: Don’t worry your child will be fine we just have to check something, so hand over your child.

Regrettably I hand over (y/n) to the other soldier before going in a different direction with some of the other new found refugees.

We see a young effeminate soldier standing in front of Ironwood the general for the Atliesian army in a briefing room with an infiltration mission for a group of criminals that has been slowly taking over Mantel that started in Mistral.

(y/n): General are you sure that this approach will be effective, just jumping in during a deal doesn’t seem like a safe way of taking down the Hunters.

Ironwood: It isn’t supposed to be safe, it is supposed to be a way of eradicating the Hunters.

(y/n): Well there is still the issue of who will be sent because right now it just shows me on the map.

Ironwood: That’s the thing, it will just be you. I don’t see a reason in sending anybody else especially after all the time and effort we put in getting you here.

(y/n): I understand a lot went in to the creation of my ge-

Ironwood: STOP, you know what I mean, without Atlas and the bright minds in its armies that allowed you to get this far. Without us you would have a pathetic semblance instead of the one we crafted for you now this debrief is finished, get moving to your lockers to gear up.

(y/n): yes sir….
