Darrell was eventually buried along-side his mother. It brought some comfort to know that they were together again. Personally, I couldn't visit the family plot, maybe one day. Just not yet. It was still too soon for me.
Today Vinnie was taking me to meet a man who represented Darrell's estates, and then we had an appointment with my doctor regarding my pregnancy. Since losing Darrell I have been a wreck, they just wanted to make sure that everything was fine. Stress was not good for both mom and baby, and I have been heavily stressed. When it came to us needing to speak with this representative, I felt I wasn't needed and tried to get out of it. 'But Vinnie made it clear how important it was that I was, so here I was on my way to this man's office.
Sensing my nervousness, Vinnie placed a hand against my lower back as we entered the building. We were greeted by a man in a suit and tie then moment we reached his office. "Please, sit! So nice to finally meet the two most important people that Mr. Abbott had spoken about. I am truly sorry for your loss and wish we could've met under different circumstances. My name is Andy Miller and Mr. Abbott had come to me years ago to set a representation over his estate. That includes both his personal belongings and any finances under his name leading up to his untimely death." Any went straight into why we were here.
"Ok so I asked for you both to come in because Mr. Abbott himself had listed the both of you personally. So, I take it you are Vincent Abbott which means you are Sabian Abbott? he asked as he looked between the two of us. Vinnie and I nodded.
Andy shuffled some paperwork before looking back up at us, "perfect. Ok so, in regards to Mr. Abbott's estate. Vinnie you were given 78% control regarding your brother's contract with Dean guitars. Leaving only 12% to you Sabian." Reading off the paper that he held in front of him. I nodded again. Honestly, I was alright with that. I never really saw myself having any full control over any of Darrell's legal obligations. I felt if anyone was to do it, Vinnie was the perfect person to do that.
Any continued to read till his eyes popped back up in my direction. "Alright, it says here Sabian that you were Mr. Abbott's spouse, yet there was no wedding license to be found. I did some digging around. Have you ever heard of what is called a common law marriage?" I frowned and shook my head to his question. I never heard of a common law marriage. Andy smiled, "right. Well, a common law marriage is an agreement between two parties that they are no a married couple. In the state of Texas, common law marriages are recognized and are protected under law if done correctly. Did you and Mr. Abbott ever come to an agreement to become husband and wife?" Any asked.
I shrugged, not sure where this was going. "Um, yes we have," I replied. Andy nodded and moved on. "Ok, I ask because I began to notice around 1995 when Mr. Abbott began to use the verbiage of wife instead of girlfriend, continuing to do so throughout the years. Which is a good thing because it shows a timeline," he smiled. I am still confused while Andy continued with his questions. "Now would you say your friends and family acknowledge that you both were married?"
