College was for new beginning and I was ready for it. My love for school was crushed quickly when kids were old enough to realize I was from the wrong side of the tracks with alcoholic parents. The bullying only made me work harder though so that I could graduate as valedictorian and land a full ride to a college far away from the small minded town I lived in. And that's exactly what I did.
None of my peers could believe when I was named Valedictorian even though I was always picked on about my grades and my homework was always stolen so that the jocks would be able to play on Friday nights. My parents couldn't believe that instead of working my life away at Patty's diner, I was moving 12 hours away to go to college.
"Low! Are you listening to me? You know how bad I did in English in high school, you're going to have to tutor me everyday for me to pass!" I hummed at my best friend, Ellie as we took some seats. Ellie Sullivan, daughter to millionaire Eli Sullivan, was a beautiful bombshell with flowing blonde hair, blue eyes, a banging body, and legs for days.
I loved Ellie to death but she doesn't study or take school seriously, at least not as serious as she takes boys and shopping. Every school year she started off strong with me tutoring her but about two weeks in she got a boyfriend or just got bored and accepted an average grade point average. She was fine with it though because when she gets out of school, she has a job waiting for her at her fathers company.
"Ow!" I hissed when Ellie's hand flew out and hit me right on the boob. I clutched my boob and glared at my best friend but her eyes were trained at the door to the classroom.
"Hottie alert! College guys are so much better eye candy then high school boys!" Ellie was practically bouncing in her seat as she took in the group of guys that had just entered the classroom.
Guys had never been interested in me, too embarrassed to be seen in town with the girl who's mom came into her job once, acting belligerent because she was plastered or who's father showed up multiple times at the school for money only to be escorted to jail for public intoxication.
So when I looked over and immediately made eye contact with the most beautiful chocolate brown eyes I've ever seen, I froze like a deer in headlights. I finally broke contact with the captivating eyes to take in the brown hair that was cut into a fade, the thick eyebrows, strong jawline, and the breath taking pearly white teeth that were drew up in a smile. But when the pretty brown eyes fleeted over to Ellie I buried my nose in my book because of course once he took one look at Ellie I would be forgotten.
"Don't look now but tall, dark, and handsome is walking this way." Ellie's sharp and boney elbow jabbed me in the side causing me to wince but not look up from my book. I was, for some odd reason, disappointed that Mr. Brown Eyes was coming up here to flirt with Ellie. I couldn't blame him or Ellie though, Ellie is a beautiful girl and so kind and caring that someone would be stupid not to be interested in her.
I wasn't expecting to feel a heavy body drop in the seat beside me and I definitely wasn't expecting the chill that ran through me when I felt the body heat from the stranger beside me. But I kept my nose in my book that I want read a single word of because I knew what play he was going for. He would make nice with me so that I would put in a good word with Ellie for him.
"Hello gorgeous." It took everything in me not to look up from my book at the sound of smooth as butter voice. Guess I was wrong and he was just going to talk to her literally over me. "Is your friend hard of hearing?" A jab to the side again had me glaring daggers at Ellie.
"What's your problem today?" I asked as I rubbed my side that I know will be bruised tomorrow due to her witch like elbows.
"Um Low, he's talking to you." Her eyes were wide like her dreams were coming true meanwhile my head snapped over to the stranger with wide eyes also but for a different reason.
I'm not an ugly girl but between plain Jane, redheaded me and bombshell Ellie, why in the world is this hunk of man talking to me over her.
"Your talking to me?" I could hear Ellie facepalm as the stranger nodded with an amused grin. "Uh why?" Once more a facepalm from Ellie and a chuckle from the stranger.
"Spencer Wright, it's a pleasure to meet you." The stranger held out his hulking hand for me to place mine in. Only I didn't, I only stared at the hand that I knew would dwarf mine.
"We're still working on her manners," Ellie took my hand it placed it in his to which the stranger- Spencer, brought it up to his lips and pressed a light kiss to then released. "This is Harlow Davis."
"Do you usually going around kissing strangers hands when you don't now where said hand has been?" This time Ellie slapped me on the back of the head and I realized my thoughts had slipped out of my head as Spencer barked out a laugh, drawling other students attention.
"I like you, Harlow Davis." Spencer grinned again, seems like he does a lot from the crinkles by his eyes. "Are you going to the game tonight?" My mood went from confused to sour immediately, I did not do any sports events. Before I could answer, Ellie slapped a hand over my mouth and chuckled nervously.
"Yes! She'll be there, hopefully you two can sit together." Sometimes Ellie liked to speak for me and I didn't appreciate it. Spencer opened his mouth to speak with a confused look on his face but the professor came in and announced the start of class.

"Ellie, I don't think this is a good idea. He was probably just joking." I don't know how I let Ellie convinced/forced me to go to the hockey game. After my embarrassing conversation with Spencer I didn't want to see him again but he was pretty to look at, I had to admit. But I wasn't here to date or even fawn over guys, I am here to keep my scholarship and graduate, to make something of myself.
"Spencer's going to flip when he sees you, he was totally drooling over you." I love Ellie but sometimes she's so delusional. "I love when you let me dress you up, it's like you're my own personal doll." Ellie skipped down the bleachers and plopped down. I followed more carefully because I had my precious nachos in hand, the same nachos Ellie bribed me with. "I wonder where he is, it's almost game time."
I can't say I wasn't disappointed when the announcer came over the speakers and there was no sign of Spencer but I wasn't surprised, I'm sure he was just messing with me. Ellie was trying to make excuses for him but I just shrugged her off, I was use to the disappointment.
"And senior captain for the Bears, Spencer Wright!"
Oh hell no.
