I softly sob into my pillow. Not understanding why my father wouldn't buy me a $300 giant stuffed bear I saw at the store with my nanny.
I jump up, storming over to my closet. I furiously start stuffing some clothes into a small bag. I was getting out of here. Swatting the tears off my cheeks, I walk toward the door. Tossing the bag down by my feet, I slowly crack open the door to the hallway. I instantly lock eyes with Vinny, my personal bodyguard. “Vinny.” I say sweetly. He raises his eyebrows at me knowing I'm about to ask for something.
“Can you bring me a pb&j, pretty pleaseeee?” I wrinkle my nose and squeeze my eyes shut, giving him my cutest smile.
I hear him sigh and I open my eyes. He's shaking his head slowly, a hint of a smile on his face. “You're a pain in my ass kid.” He mumbles. I smile at my success and close the door. I press my ear to the door and wait till I hear him walk down the stairs.
I snatch up my bag, and run down the steps on the other side of the house and straight out the door.
I sprint over to where my bike is leaning against a tree. I whip a small knife out of my pocket and hack on the tracker, until it falls to the ground. My mother thought I was too young to be carrying around a weapon. But daddy has insisted on it since she died. What is a 10 year old supposed to use a knife for anyway?I flip the blade closed and stuff it back in my pocket. I jump on my bike and ride as hard and as fast as I can.
About 45 minutes later.
My throat burns, I pump my legs hard. My lungs feel like they're about to explode. My hands are sweaty and shaking. I don't recognize this part of the woods. Daddy always forbid me from riding this far, I have to be in shadow territory now. But that doesn't matter now. because I'm never going back.
My vision starts to fuzz, when my tire jerks. “Ahh!” I scream as I lose control and slam face first into the hard forest floor.I lift my face off the ground, spitting out dirt and what tastes like pine needles and maybe some deer poop. I groan softly as I roll over onto my back.
My whole body hurts. I jump when I hear a rustling in the bushes to my right. My hand flies to my pocket. My heart drops. My knife is gone. Panic sets in as my head flies side to side desperately searching the forest floor for my silver blade.
I spot it. I coil up to lunge for it. “ ahh.” I whimper, feeling a stabbing pain in my leg. I heard the noise again. I ignore the pain and go to lunge at it again.
“I wouldn't do that if I were you.”
I gasp. “Who are you?” When I don't hear a response I crawl forward with my knife.
I almost have it when a young boy jumps out of the bushes and puts his foot over the knife. I pull my hand back and yelp. “ Who are you?” I ask again. He tilts his head at me like it was a stupid question. “You don't know who I am?” He asks plainly.I shake my head, looking up at him. I try to stand.
I wince.
“Here.” He steps forward and holds out his hand. “Let me help you.”
I stare at his outstretched hand cautiously.
The little my mother taught me about strangers completely left me, I have the irresistible urge to trust this boy.
Hesitantly I took his hand.
His hand felt rough but his touch was gentle. His touch felt like electricity, as I looked into his eyes I saw his pupils dilate so big they looked jet black. I cringed slightly.
My breath snags in my throat as he slowly pulls me to my feet.
His scent filled my nose, my eyes fell shut. It… was nice.I put all my weight on my left leg. My right thigh throbbed painfully. I glanced down, my eyes widened. A steady stream of blood was trickling down my leg. “Here.” He said again. He ducked down. “What are yo…” I gasped when he scooped me into his arms. I felt my cheeks flush.
I tried, but I couldn't peel my eyes away from his face. His gorgeous blonde hair bounced slightly as he walked me across the clearing.
“Are you enjoying the view?” he asks.
My eyes darted away. I can't speak.
I hear him laugh softly.
I throw him a nasty look before tearing my eyes away again.
