The remnants of Fatima's life still lingered in the air, a heavy shroud that suffocated Taehyung. It had been a week since her death, yet the memory of her burning body, reduced to ashes, haunted him like a specter. Each time he closed his eyes, he could see it vividly-the flames devouring her, the screams echoing in his mind. She had kidnapped him, stolen his memories, and twisted the fabric of his life into something unrecognizable. Though she had been cruel, there was an undeniable truth: Fatima had cared for Sofia as if she were her own daughter. Now, without her, Taehyung felt lost.
He glanced at Sofia, who was playing with her stuffed rabbit, the one Fatima had given her. The girl's laughter, a sweet melody amidst the chaos, was a reminder of joy in a world suddenly devoid of it. But there was also the familiar ache in Taehyung's chest every time he caught her asking for her mother, her bright eyes searching for Fatima in the corners of the room. It was a reminder that grief was a double-edged sword, cutting deep and leaving scars. He couldn't bear the thought of her pain, of her innocence being marred by such a loss.
"Why doesn't Mama come home?" Sofia asked one day, her voice a soft whisper that shattered Taehyung's composure.
Taehyung knelt beside her, fighting back tears. "She... she's busy right now, baby. But she loves you very much," he managed, his voice thick with emotion.
Sofia tilted her head, her brow furrowing in confusion. "But I miss her."
Taehyung's heart twisted painfully at her words. "I know, sweet girl. I miss her too," he replied, pulling her into a tight embrace. Jungkook entered the room just then, his presence like a beacon of warmth amidst the storm of Taehyung's thoughts.
"Hey, what's going on?" Jungkook asked, noticing the tension in Taehyung's expression. He came over, kneeling beside them, his arms encircling both Taehyung and Sofia.
"Just talking about Mama," Sofia said, her voice muffled against Jungkook's shoulder.
"Ah, sweet girl," Jungkook whispered, rubbing her back soothingly. "You know she would want you to be happy, right?"
Sofia nodded, though the sadness in her eyes remained. "I want to play with her again."
"Me too," Taehyung murmured, feeling a fresh wave of sorrow crash over him. He leaned against Jungkook, finding solace in his lover's strength. Jungkook tightened his hold, anchoring them both as they navigated the murky waters of grief together.
"Let's play something fun, okay?" Jungkook suggested, trying to lift Sofia's spirits. "How about we pretend to be pirates?"
"Pirates!" Sofia's face lit up with excitement, her giggles echoing through the room. "Can I be the captain?"
"Of course! You're the best captain there is!" Jungkook laughed, lifting her into the air and twirling her around.
As they played, the doorbell rang, breaking the momentary spell of laughter. "I'll get it!" Jungkook called out, setting Sofia down gently. "Stay here, Captain!"
