Jimin's POV
I couldn't stop smiling as I stepped out of the kitchen and dining room.
Why is Taehyung just so irresistibly charming? Is "charming" even the right word? Maybe "adorably chaotic" fits better. His delightful messiness for sure earns him that title.
It's easy to see why the kids at the orphanage are so pleased with Taehyung. Though we will have to see how long his charm lasts.
"Jimin." I heard softly being called as I passed the office of the woman who ran the orphanage.
"Yes, Nana?" I responded respectfully, stepping into the doorway to find her focused on a pile of paperwork.
"Sit down for a moment," She requested, setting her pen aside.
I crossed the room and sank into a chair that was opposite her desk, leaning back slightly as she began to speak.
"I need your honest opinion. What do you think of Taehyung?" Her eyes were curious, searching mine for insight.
Having spent so much time here and with the kids, I knew she wanted to gauge whether Taehyung was a good fit for them.
"Um, from what I've seen so far, he seems lovely." I replied.
A soft smile crept across her lips, her eyes sparkling.
"That word you chose is interesting." She commented, leaning forward slightly in her chair.
"How so?" I asked while tilting my head intrigued.
"Because Taehyung used that exact word when I asked him about you earlier." She stated, her revelation making my eyes widen in surprise.
Taehyung thinks I'm lovely? After just one conversation? I grasped that conclusion after two conversations even.
"I'm glad you see him that way," She continued. "I was worried the children might not respect him, but so far, they really seem to."
She paused, then added, "If you can, during your free time, could you check in on him? I'm often buried in paperwork, and as his boss, he might not feel comfortable sharing any concerns with me. It would mean a lot if you could keep an eye on him."
I nodded silently. It wasn't my responsibility to ensure Taehyung's success here, but I did agree to be his friend, and I care for the kids so I will do my best.
"Is that all?" I asked, gripping the edge of the chair as I prepared to stand.
"For now, thank you." She called as I left her office.
The rest of my day passed in solitude as I lost myself in a novel. It wasn't until I reached the final page that I noticed the night had crept in, pulling me back to reality.
I wandered downstairs, running a hand through my messy blonde hair, heading for the kitchen.
My heart melted at the sight of the youngest girl, fast asleep on Taehyung's lap, while he read to the little ones, fake reading glasses perched adorably on his nose.
The oldest kids however were sitting at the dining table until one of them noticed my presence in the room.
Minsu, a 7-year-old boy got out of his seat, running over to me before grabbing my wrist.
"Jimin-ah! Taehyung made cupcakes, come on! You have to see them!" He squealed excitedly.
Some of the other girls that were at the dining table came over to where Minsu led me.
"Wow, don't they look amazing!" I gasped out, even though I originally knew of the cupcake's existence.
"Have you guys had one?" I asked, leaning closer to inspect the cupcakes, noting how some had been decorated perfectly with Taehyung's vibrant icing, so he must have practised my advice.
"Yeah, Taehyung let us all have one." Jena, an 8-year-old girl proclaimed. Jena was one of the girls I overheard Taehyung talking to on his first night here.
"How were they?" I asked while straightening up.
"Yummy!" Minsu exclaimed.
"You should have one Jimin-ah." Jena replied.
"Definitely," Minji added, a 10-year-old girl, the other girl that was in Taehyungs bedroom on the first night.
"Taehyung! Can Jimin have a cupcake!?" Minji shouted, making me gasp out in shock.
I turned around to see Taehyung's wide eyes fall onto us.
"Yeah." He replied, his tone casual, yet his gaze seemed to search for my reaction.
"Maybe after dinner," I said, not wanting to spoil my appetite. "If you're lucky, you all might get another one too." I hummed so they would behave.
Minsu tugged me back toward the dining table, but I couldn't shake the way Taehyung's eyes were laced with mine before.
He seemed to look at me as though he was trying to gather answers into why Minji was asking for me.
But he also seemed to have understood everything through one glance.
But why do I feel like Taehyung understands me better than others my age have understood me?
His eyes just seem to hold so many truths, stories, and emotions that make me curious and eager to learn.
It was as if he could read between the lines, grasping the unspoken connection forming between us.
I suppose in my world, it won't be so bad to keep an eye on Taehyung after all.
