(seungmin x hyunjin)

Nothing is ever like what it seems to be.

That's how it was for princes Hyunjin and Seungmin. To the outside world, they were the hottest couple in royalty, even after three years of marriage. Everyone raved about their chemistry and how good they looked together.

But the reality? It was a marriage of convenience for a merger deal. Neither of them wanted anything to do with the other. Every smile, every little moment of the slightest intimacy, was all just a show for them.

"Hyunjin?" Seungmin asks, knocking on the door to his study before entering. Hyunjin was seated behind a vintage mahogany desk, accompanied by mountains of sheets and stacks of books about every boring thing ever. He was comfortably dressed in an oversized white t-shirt and some pajama pants. Thick, black specs rest atop the bridge of his nose and few loose strands of his tousled hair fall over his eyes.

"What?" He replies with an unwarranted coldness in his voice, looking up and adjusting his glasses.

"Do you have any idea what time it is? We're supposed to leave in twenty minutes!" Seungmin clicks his tongue in irritation, seeing that Hyunjin was nowhere near ready to go for the New Year's party at the King's palace. If anything, he looked like he was ready to go to bed.

"Jeez, can you stop nagging me for one minute? I swear, it's like I married my mother or something."

"It's been three years already so get used to it. Hurry up!"

"Who the fuck are you to tell me what to do?" he mutters under his breath, but Seungmin heard him just fine. Even though he was used to their quarrels, it stung every time Hyunjin said something hurtful like that. He chooses to let his patience preside over him and leaves without a word, mentally cursing himself for even bothering to talk to him.

Seungmin hated everything about this marriage. Although he didn't seem to come across as the romantic type, he was someone who had his own wishes for an ideal partner. When he thought of marriage, he dreamt of a loving husband whose arms he could run into after a long, hard day. He wanted someone he could talk and laugh with. Instead, he was stuck with a frustratingly attractive nerd who spent all his time with his face buried in a book 24/7 to ever bother looking at him.

Sparks of tension crackled between them on the way to the palace, despite no words exchanged between the two. They were both still sour about the little argument they had before leaving. This had become a part of their daily routine, to fight over petty things and refuse to speak to each other. Not that they talked otherwise, anyways.

Soon, they reach their destination. They get out of the car and Hyunjin suddenly drapes his arms around Seungmin's waist, startling him.

"What are you doing?" he asks, taken aback by the action.

"Paps," Hyunjin replies with a forced smile. Only then does he notice the hoard of photographers rushing in their direction. Seungmin instantly puts on the most natural smile his lips could afford, having mastered the art of fake happiness. They pose for a few pictures in front of the gate of the palace before they head inside to the privacy of its big walls.

And that was that. Neither of them saw a trace of the other the entire night. Once the heat of the fight was over, Hyunjin had begun to think of the possibility that Seungmin might've heard what he said before. Sure, they weren't some couple in love, but he still felt that his words were a little harsh. He was up in his temper about his work and he'd taken in out on Seungmin.

Oh my god, what if he really heard me?" Hyunjin thought to himself. But another part of him thought otherwise.

He doesn't care about you or what you say. Why would he be bothered by it? Forget it.
