After calming down from her excitement, Xu Zhen began to seriously think about how to enter the palace. She pleaded with Xun Qianchun, the little beggar, for quite some time, asking her to help sneak into the palace at night.

Xun Qianchun, having overheard the conversation from the next room, wasn't particularly concerned. She was more focused on keeping Xu Zhen safe and didn't want her to take unnecessary risks. So, after finishing their tea, she took Xu Zhen to find lodging at an inn.

Xu Zhen, feeling a bit helpless, said, "Just this once, after this is over, I'll follow your lead in everything. We just need to overturn the case. Besides, it's your clan that suffered the injustice, so why am I more eager to clear it than you are?"

Xun Qianchun replied, "The past is already the past."

Having endured so much, she now possessed the skills to survive and didn’t want to be tied down by past grievances.

She added, "Teacher, I want you to live happily."

Xu Zhen quickly responded, "If you take me to see the favored concubine, I'll definitely be happier."

Reluctantly, Xun Qianchun nodded in agreement. Xu Zhen, beaming, climbed onto Xun Qianchun and said, "You're so good."

Xun Qianchun smiled softly.

"It's just that your new disguise looks a bit odd to me," Xu Zhen remarked as she removed Xun Qianchun's disguise sticker. She leaned in for a couple of kisses, stopping at a scar near Xun Qianchun's eye. Gently rubbing the scar, Xu Zhen asked, "Will this scar ever heal?"

Every time she saw it, the scar felt like it was etched on her own heart, causing her pain.

Xun Qianchun replied, "I don't know. I keep it as a reminder."

Xu Zhen asked, "I forgot how you got this scar. Was it from those Yunmo workshop people?"

Xun Qianchun answered, "No."

Curious, Xu Zhen inquired further, "Then how did it happen?"

Sitting cross-legged on a cushion and leaning against the wall, Xun Qianchun explained, "It happened when I was young, during punishment in prison."

Xu Zhen was surprised, realizing she knew very little about Xun Qianchun's past. Wanting to understand more, she asked directly, "How were you caught? And how did you escape?"

Xun Qianchun smiled and began to explain, "I escaped because my mother used martial arts to dig a tunnel, like a dog's hole, for me. I left first, but waited outside for a long time. When my mother and sister didn't come, I went back..."

Continuing, her eyes closed and her voice hoarse, "When I returned, I found the tunnel sealed. My mother and sister chose to stay behind and die with the rest of the clan."

Xu Zhen felt a tightness in her chest, leaving her speechless for a moment. Finally, she murmured, "They made their choice and probably don't regret it."

Xun Qianchun nodded, "That's good."

Xu Zhen held Xun Qianchun's hand and said, "No matter what, I'm grateful to your mother."

Xun Qianchun said, "She's also your mother."

Xu Zhen smiled.

Her smile lightened the heavy atmosphere considerably, and she continued, "Your mother let you escape, which gave me the chance to meet you. I'm really happy for that."

Xun Qianchun wrapped her arms around Xu Zhen, holding her tightly for a long time before letting go.

They then turned their attention to the plan of sneaking into the palace. Neither of them knew what the palace was like these days, so Xun Qianchun planned to scout it out at night. Once she understood the layout, she would take Xu Zhen inside.
