Midnight.

Not far from Jiaotang Garden, the sound of running and chasing suddenly echoed.

Kong Qing was on night duty today and sensed something was amiss, so he prepared to take people over.

But before they could take two steps, they heard someone over there shouting, "You think you can run after stealing the mistress's belongings? Let's see where you can run to!"

It sounded like a theft had been discovered.

"Eunuch Qing, should we go over?" the little eunuch following asked.

Kong Qing furrowed his brows. "Forget it, let's not stir up trouble."

If they went and attracted trouble, that wouldn't be good.

The little eunuch wanted to see the commotion, but since Kong Qing didn't say to go, he didn't dare act on his own and instead stretched his neck to take a couple of peeks in that direction.

He saw that someone seemed to have already caught the person and was dragging them back.

"Tsk tsk, this person is really foolish; they didn't even shout a word while being beaten. Why are they running around in the middle of the night, coming this way? With such dirty hands and feet, if we catch them, it'll be a beating!"

As Kong Qing was about to enter the courtyard, he suddenly remembered something upon hearing this murmur.

There were no other concubines living in this area; only Jiaotang Garden had people living in it, so why were they running this way?

His eyes narrowed, and he immediately said, "Let's go take a look."

A few little eunuchs were startled and quickly followed.

Six or seven people soon caught up.

They saw a palace maid being dragged back, struggling incessantly.

"What are you doing? Making noise beside Jiaotang Garden in the middle of the night, disturbing Ming Shunyi and the Fourth Prince's rest? Heads will roll for this!" Kong Qing reprimanded sternly as he approached.

The people on the opposite side paused momentarily and forced out a couple of awkward laughs.

"Ah, it's our fault, but we're not trying to catch anyone. She stole the mistress's belongings, with such dirty hands and feet. We were just about to take her back to report."

Kong Qing squinted and stepped forward. "Which mistress?"

"Hui Zhaorong. She stole Hui Zhaorong's jewelry," the person replied.

But Kong Qing didn't quite believe it because the palace maid they were holding down was struggling even more fiercely after hearing the conversation, although her face was hard to see.

So he intended to go forward to see the palace maid's face but was blocked.

"Hey, Eunuch, we still have to report back. This isn't a big deal."

"Hui Zhaorong has always had a good relationship with us, Shunyi. Since this is Shunyi's matter, I must take a look."

Kong Qing was very forceful. With a wave of his hand, the little eunuchs following him stepped forward and pushed aside the people holding the palace maid.

When the palace maid looked up, even though her face was covered in blood, Kong Qing still recognized her as Nianwen.

"This is clearly someone from Fang Xiuyuan's side. Are you telling me you can't even distinguish who the mistress is? I suspect you're deliberately committing a crime. Take this palace maid away and tell Shunyi!"
