As the glare contest between Dainsleif and Venti went on for a few minutes, Diluc was looking at you.

Second Person POV

You were just smiling at Venti's mischief while Diluc's gaze was on you.
(Author's note: Sir, why are you staring?)

Dainsleif didn't stop glaring at Venti at all, even when Venti looked up at Dainsleif. A moment of panic and realization came into his eyes, but he very quickly calmed down and waved at Dainsleif.

"Venti... fine, if you have come here, then you can stay too," Jean said with a sigh.

Venti grinned and chimed, "Oh! You are just too nice to this bard~."

Just then, Diluc crossed his arms and said in his usual deep yet stern tone, "Indeed... keep quiet before we take your word and stop being 'too' kind... remember, you still need to pay me more for all your drinks."

Venti's chipper mood immediately stopped, and he sulked to himself. "Well, as I was saying... we need to find the cause of Dvalin's restlessness. So, all of us—"

Venti cut in with his chipper voice, "Me too?!"

Jean sighed and nodded. "Yes, Venti... you can come too."

You snickered a bit to yourself, which caused Dainsleif to calm down his death glare and soften. "Alright, if that's the plan, then... everyone make sure to be alert and don't stray alone," Diluc said in his usual tone, his arms crossed.

As everyone arrived at Dvalin's lair, dark clouds loomed ominously above. "Hmm, we're almost there... Dvalin should be nearby. We just need to provoke him to come out," Jean said, turning to face the group.

"Maybe a song can draw him out?" Venti suggested, already reaching for his lyre. Diluc considered the idea for a moment before giving a silent nod of approval. Venti stepped forward and began to play his lyre, but nothing happened. He had been so certain it would work...

You spoke up softly, "Perhaps something is preventing Dvalin from acting according to his own will. I could try using my flute instead. Maybe a louder tune could reach him?"

Venti started to respond but then thought better of it and simply nodded in agreement. You stepped forward, raised your flute, and began to play a gentle melody. Almost immediately, the ground trembled as Dvalin emerged, moving with an unusual urgency.

The others watched cautiously, but they all noticed the same thing—there were tears in Dvalin's eyes. He approached you hesitantly, his gaze fixed on you as you continued to play. You opened your eyes and smiled softly. "Dvalin?" you whispered, your voice barely audible.

Dvalin looked at you with something close to disbelief, as if unsure of what he was witnessing. The wind began to pick up, swirling around the lair, while Vayun watched silently from a distance.

Venti looked stunned yet confused... Why was Dvalin so stunned, yet teary when looking at you? Were you someone important to him? Did only a slight tune of your flute call him when his lyre wasn’t able to…?

He was being careful when approaching you, too... Dvalin seemed overjoyed to have met you... the only thing that Venti didn’t know... was that Dvalin was glad to have seen you again. Once again, he was meeting the person he did all of this for... all the pain and sacrifice was worth it...

Why would Dvalin ever wish to save Mondstadt? Why would he sacrifice safety over saving a nation that meant nothing to him...? If only he was protecting another’s sacrifice... only then would he endure this pain... someone who was like a Guardian.
