Rhaenyra

Rhaenyra grazed her finger over the dried ink, her nail scraping the parchment as she sat on her throne in Dragonstone, surrounded by what the people had started to refer to as the Black Kingsguard.

Our son will be avenged . A son for a son.

Daemon' handwriting was neat, but the quill had left a deep indent in the parchment which meant her husband had been scarcely able to control his fury as he had written those words.

It had been lord Tarth who had sent word of the broken carcass of Arrax being washed ashore by the waves. From thereon the conclusion had been easily reachable.

They had murdered her son.

Only another dragon could have bitten off Arrax's head from his body, and there was but one dragon who could easily achieve such a feat.

Vhagar.

It had to have been Aemond, Aemond who nursed a wounded pride because her son had maimed him. Never before had Rhaenyra though the boy deserved it, he had been punished for repeating words he didn't understand and the Gods had seen fit to it, but he had been relentless in his pursue of vengeance and she was sure her Father had been the only reason this hadn't happened sooner.

The stupid, insipid boy had turned to a kinslayer and had robbed her of her son, her darling son, whom Rhaenyra had lulled to sleep and confided in. Her son.

Her son .

They had taken her son, and they would bear the hurt of it, the burn of it. She would serve them Fire and Blood.

A son for a son .

Rhaenyra didn't know — didn't want to know — how Daemon still had people inside the Red Keep, what mattered was that they paid for her son's death. For her son's murder in cold blood.

Dearest Rhaenyra,

I know our sons have had an entanglement of sorts above Storm's End which concluded with the death of Arrax, but my sons, Daeron and Aemond managed to drag Lucerys from the waves and the stones before they claimed his life. Your son is alive and being tended to by the Maester of Storm's End as we speak.

Both of my princes have risked their lives and necks to save Lucerys' life, I know it will never soothe the loss of Arrax for him, but he will be alive to learn to cope with that loss.

It was preposterous. Arrogance of prime order for Alicent to even think Rhaenyra could trust a single word coming from her mouth.

Not only had they murdered her son but they also wanted, wished for the world to believe they had done everything in their power to save him, when they had been the ones to pursue him in the air and cause his death! They wanted to clean the stain on their name by pretending he didn't die yet and that he would die of the wounds. It was all a political move the gather more support, but Aemond Targaryen was a Kinslayer and Rhaenyra would be damned if she let the world forget it.
