Chapter 24

After a few months...

In the afternoon, Zahra received a call from doctor after a routine health checkup.

"Zahra.. I need you to come in for further tests. There's something we need to discuss."

She didn't tell Hisham right away. Instead, she waited until that evening when they were both home.

"Hisham.."

"What's wrong, honey?"

"I got a call from doctor today.. they found something in my last check-up. They want me to come in for more tests.."

"What do they think it is??"

Zahra shook her head, trying to not crying.

"They didn't say much, just that it could be serious. I'll going tomorrow."

Hisham hugged her.

"Insha'Allah, everything will be fine..."

The next day, they sat in the doctor's office.

The news hit them like a wave. Zahra felt numb as the doctor outlined the treatment plan, but all she could think about was Adam.. about how her illness might affect him.

In the car on the way home, Zahra stared out the window.

In the evening, after putting Adam to bed.. they say together in the living room.

Zahra was crying.

"Hisham.. I don't know if I can do this.. I'm so scared, Hisham.."

"You're the strongest person I know, Zahra.. Allah is testing us, but we'll come out of this together, okay?"

Hisham wiped her tears.

"What if I'm not strong enough. What if I can't be the mother Adam needs? What if—.."

"Stop.." Hisham hugged her.

"Zahra.. don't let fear control you. We'll pray and follow the treatment plan and support each other every step of the way. You're not alone in this.."

That night, they prayed together.

After a few days, Zahra began her treatment.

And.. after a few months, Zahra condition slowly improved. The treatment was working.
