Chapter Twenty-Seven
Spot
An umbra formed in the desolate cemetery, eddying in a repetitive movement as it formed the silhouettes of two people. The shadows gradually slithered away to the farthest corners of the burial ground, leaving the couple standing alone all while the young woman clung to the man.
Riven looked down at Reine, a smirk creeping to his lips when he saw she had shut her eyes. As they were leaving the Underworld, she clung to his shirt, holding on as tight as possible as they made their way back to the mortal realm. The man placed his hands over hers and gently pried her hands from his shirt. "We're here." Riven stated. "You can open your eyes, Reine."
The girl opened one of her eyes to peek. When an empty cemetery greeted her, a sigh of relief escaped her lips. "I will never get used to that."
"You will at some point." Riven replied as he dug into his jean pocket and grabbed a small glass vial. "Here," The man said as he offered the girl the vial. "Take a drink of this."
"What is it?" Reine asked as she took the vial and looked over the golden liquid.
"It's called The Nectar of the Gods." Riven informed the girl. "It will heal your bruises."
"That's it?" Reine inquired as she looked from the vial to Riven.
"Well...it's said that the Nectar will make a human immortal. I'm not sure how true that is, though. I've never seen it happen before. However, one thing you will have to do is continue to drink nectar throughout your life. If you stop, your powers will weaken and eventually leave you completely. You'll become human."
"So... will you be my nectar dealer?" Reine asked with a raised brow as she studied the vial.
This caused Riven to burst out laughing. He never imagined someone would ask him to be a dealer in nectar. "I suppose I can if you'd like me to."
"How often will I have to drink this?" The girl inquired.
"Some gods and goddesses drink nectar multiple times a day. Aphrodite is constantly drinking it." Riven informed the young woman. He knew he probably should have spoken to his father and step-mother before bringing up nectar to Reine. However, he didn't want her going around looking like she got the crap beat out of her. "If I bring you nectar, you can't let it out of your sight. You can get into big trouble if a human gets hold of the stuff. Zeus isn't too fond of when humans get hold of the nectar. At least so I'm told..."
"You know Zeus?" Reine asked as she opened the vial. She brought the glass vial up to her nose and sniffed the liquid. The smell was indescribable. She had smelt nothing that mouth watering before. Even her Gran's cooking didn't measure up to the liquid's scent. She could only imagine how it would taste. Reine gathered her courage and brought the vial to her lips. She wrapped her lips around the rim of the glass and tilted her head back, allowing the liquid to flow down her throat. Just like the scent, she couldn't describe the taste. It tasted like the sweetest dessert that had ever touched her tongue, mixed with a subtle hint of honey. As the last drop slid over her tongue and down her throat, she removed the vial from her lips and ran the tip of her tongue over her parted lips. Gathering every drop of the addicting liquid, making sure none went to waste.
"I've met him a few times." Riven replied as she finished the liquid from the vial. "He is...well... temperamental."
"I should probably avoid him then." Reine said as she handed over the empty vial to Riven.
"Well...he is your grandfather and uncle. You'll have to meet him, eventually."
"My grandfather and uncle?" Reine questioned the man with an arched brow. "How does that work?"
