Two months pass and still, no sign of Paimon and the stranger from the stars. Should he be worried? It is unusual for Paimon to stay in the Archives, Paimon is indeed obsessed with all kinds of books and accounts, but even she spends no more than a week or two in there at most. And with that stranger with her, Venti's brain was overanalyzing, going into overdrive. The Anemo Archon has had many friends over the centuries he lived. Paimon among them. He had tried to visit the Archives multiple times, only to find that he couldn't even enter Paimon's wagon due to some esoteric seals she put in place.
Not all is well in the real world either. It's like every day is bringing more and more bad news for everyone. Not even the Archon himself was beyond its reach.
And amidst the swirling maelstrom of bad news that got his attention these past few months; was a series of reports in which his worst dreams have been realized. As though the universe had picked this time to mess with his psyche.
At first, the reports were relatively small scale, with a strange flying creature being seen flying around the more obscure parts of the nation, followed by increased Abyss order activity in the surrounding area.
Then came the reports of sudden and unexplained storms, which were so powerful that watch towers and whole buildings were uprooted or simply stripped from the land, leaving nothing but the foundations. Then came the reports of entire forests being uprooted, tornadoes able to rip apart whole sections in one pass, and causing the tree trunks to be tossed all over the place. Often for miles around.
The news of the devastation and wind-powered terror reached far and wide, not helped by the Steambird who managed to spread the news to distant Liyue and Sumeru. But it was the description of the flying beast that shook the young bard to his core: a blue and teal green dragon, sporting multiple wings and with a monstrous roar. Able to control the wind with impunity, far beyond the capacity of mere vision wielders. The level of control was such that perhaps only the Gods or great heroes with extraordinary weapons or copious amounts of luck could have a chance at defeating it. It was said that the beast's roar could be heard up in Dragonspine and if the rumors are to be believed; one could hear the loudest roar in Liyue harbor, if, admittedly, as a whisper.
That was all the confirmation that Venti needed to draw up a conclusion. It was his dear friend Dvalin, there's no way that it isnt. The details fit perfectly like a puzzle piece.
And yet, all he can do is try and find a way to help him. All of those attributes described in the paper are far lies. He is not some beast, he is one of the four winds of Mondstadt, among its great protectors! And that roar, it was a means for him to sing the most beautiful songs! He must do something. He most.
He marched out of the city with a full bag of supplies and made his way toward the whispering woods. If he can have one good conversation with him; and get him to calm down, then perhaps he can cure him of whatever affliction has corrupted his heart and mind. The anger building within him is great, so very great.
All things are free, as they should be. Puppeting another is pure evil, no matter what the reasoning may be. To do such a thing would insult the system of free will and choice that the Archon of Mondstadt has set up for all to have. It was spitting in the face of those who died trying to overthrow Decarabian and those who suffered under the reign of the Lawrence clan.
It seems to him that now is as good a time as any to try and do something, anything.
As he made it across the bridge and as he was about to make his way to the whispering woods to try and call out to his dear friend, he stopped. Looking toward the road leading to Windrise and wondered if he should check up on them one last time.
He made his way to the wagon as fast as he could. Just as he reached the grassy, flat plains, he saw it. The wagon, sitting still under the shadow of the giant tree that this place is known for.
