Abby's POV
Once I'm in the truck Jax closes my door and throws the bags in the trunk. While I wait for him I take out my phone, just as a call comes through. It's Celeste. I want to send it to voicemail but I know she'll just keep calling. And if I'm honest, a part of me is curious to see what she has to say. We haven't spoken since her wedding. I shouldn't have let it go for this long. Lord knows I'd hate myself if something were to happen to her and our last interaction ever was an unpleasant one.
I take a deep breath and hit accept on the screen.
"Hello, Celeste. Hows the honeymoon going?" I try my hardest to hide the annoyance I still harbor in my voice and sound upbeat.
"Hey Abbs! It's fantastic!" She's definately intoxicate. She never uses that word. "How's everything back home? You're going to school right?" I close my eyes shaking my head. She knows damn well I've been going to school. What she doesn't know is that I'll be missing three days coming up this week. But right now I don't feel she has the right to know.
"Yes, Celeste. Of course I've been going to class. What kind of a question even is that? And why are you even calling me?" I can't hide the annoyance.
"Well, after the wedding and all the drama that brought; I wanted to call you but John said it was best to let things cool down. I figured a week was long enough. I wanted to make sure that bodyguard of yours was doing his job and nothing else." Jackson gets in the drivers seat mouthing 'who's that?' And I mouth back Celeste. His brows immediately pinch downwards.
"What else would he be doing exactly?" I pull the phone from my ear and just make the volume higher. I know if I put her on speaker she'll question why and who's listening.
"I don't know Abbigail. You're a young beautiful woman. He may be trying to seduce and use you. Not like you have a lot of experience with men." There it is. Back handed compliments.
"So that's all I'd be good for? What if he wanted more? Or what if the roles were reversed and he wanted the relationship and I just wanted to get laid? What then?" It goes silent for a tick on her end. I sit patiently waiting for her to speak.
"Abby, we've had this talk already. I don't care what either one of you wants. You are to stay away from him. You have no idea what he's done or been involved in." My eyes look up into Jackson's as I smirk.
"What are you talking about Celeste? Jackson is a good man." She starts to laugh, making Jax smile and shake his head.
"Oh, Abby. Abby, Abby, Abby. I knew he hadn't told you. Abby he-."
"Was in prison?" I cut her off.
"Abby he-."
"Was involved with bad people? Yeah I know. But do you know why he went to prison? Because I do. I know every detail about everything. So please tell me what you think you know?" I hear her huff out her breath.
"It doesn't matter why. He will ruin your reputation." I can't help but laugh at her.
"Is that so? Then why did you marry his cousin? Someone directly linked to him, whom he also hired to be head of security? Your excuses don't hold water Celeste. There's got to be more to your reasoning? He's been nothing but caring and kind and attentive towards me." I hear her walking obviously away from prying ears.
"Abby do as you are told and keep your distance. I've had enough of the what ifs. We both know they will never happen and you are just doing this to be a royal pain in my ass." My heart starts to race, and my hands start to shake as a reaction, and there's nothing I can do to hold back.

RomanceYou're right, Abby. You did see me. I've been showing up there a lot. Just to catch a glimpse of you. And until yesterday I've had no luck." I brush my hands along the clothes hanging as I walk closer to her. "So I sat there for an hour just to wa...
