ONE WEEK LATER

Ward Cameron sat me down in the dining room with Rose at his side. No one else was in the room. Rafe was upstairs on his balcony slowly going to madness while Wheezie refused to come out of her room at the thought of Sarah being dead.

"Listen... School starts tomorrow but we understand if you don't want to go back. We can help you apply for your diploma online and maybe you can just do online school or drop out and take GED classes. Whatever you want to do, Alana. It's up to you and we're just here to help." Ward explained quietly. "It might be better for you to do online school but GED would be quicker and it's just the same as a regular diploma."

"Which you need either one of those certificates if you want to keep working with me and get promoted higher as time goes on." Rose added. "I like having you as my assistant. I don't want to see you throw it all away, you're a smart girl."

Smart.. Yeah, I'm so fucking smart. That's why I'm still stuck here in this house knowing that my father, my brother, and my best friend are dead all because of Ward Cameron. I've tried to not let it show and Kie and I agreed that I need to stay here as intel.

Especially since Ward is planning on moving the gold from their home in Nassau to another location soon. I'm not sure where but Rafe has such a big mouth and tells me everything that I know the moment Ward tells him he'll come running up to our room- yes, I said our room because Ward has since lifted all the restrictions between us.

Truthfully, I think he's scared if I'm alone I'll tell someone the truth about what's been happening. Which is why I also think he's pushing for me to drop out of school and do everything from home.

"How fast can I get my GED?" I ask Rose, not Ward. "And how much schooling do I need afterward to be able to be certified to work with you as more than just an assistant?"

Rose practically maps everything out for me. What I need to do for schooling, how long it'll take, what my grade point average needs to be and other preparations I need to make. Ward sits silently while Rose explains everything but her voice falters as footsteps enter the room from behind me.

"Rafe, we're having a private conversation." Ward says.

Rafe Cameron pulls up a chair next to me and looks at all the papers and research on GED versus diploma that Rose had on her computer to show me. Along with the schooling for real estate.

"And she's going to be my wife someday so I think I should be involved."

I shoot my glare at him and I see Rose fight back a smile. Ward's eyes widen at the way I've truly gotten Rafe wrapped around my finger. Even if he still is slowly losing his mind. But I think the paranoia now is because each time he hears a loud engine or another bike he thinks it's Barry.

I wanted to get more of my stuff from my house back in the cut and Rafe refused to let me go. We got into a huge screaming match over it and Ward offered to come with me or to get me a police escort to go and Rafe still wouldn't allow it.

"I'm not discussing marriage, Rafe. I'm discussing my future."

"Marriage is part of your future." He argues back. "Diploma. College. Marriage. Babies."

I scoff at him. "And where does my career fit into that? Because if you think I'm going to just become some little house bunny-"

"I know what's best for you, Alana!" His voice rises and I sink back into my seat for only half a second before I decide to jump to my feet.
