At first, Hitori thought she was dreaming. There was no way this was real. Good things didn't happen to her, not like this. But she didn't dream. She couldn't. And if it wasn't a dream or a memory, it had to actually be happening.
Hitori was lying in the blanket with Bakugo on the roof of his house. The sun was just beginning to come up, and the sky was slowly lighting. She was on her side, her head on his shoulder. Her hand was on his chest and her leg was resting on one of his. His arm was wrapped around her shoulders.
Bakugo's slow, deep breathing told Hitori that he was still asleep. Which was good, because her mind was racing.
Holy shit this is actually happening, I don't even remember cuddling up to him! Crap, what do I do?
Hitori felt her face growing red. Her stomach was filled with butterflies and her heart was beating so fast she was worried he would feel it. But she was feeling something else too. Something new. A kind of lightness and ease that kept her where she was, despite her nervousness.
Is this what it's like to feel happy? God, I just want five more minutes...please stay asleep just a little bit longer...
Bakugo shifted slightly. Hitori held her breath, but he didn't wake up. He hugged her a little tighter in his sleep and sighed. She let out the air she was holding and nuzzled his shoulder, smiling happily. Eventually, Hitori started to fall asleep again. Bakugo was so warm, and she was so comfortable.
But a few minutes later, the dream she was living did have to end. Bakugo started to stir again, and this time he didn't go back to sleep. He moved his hand down her arm and then froze. Hitori heard his breath hitch, and his heart rate pick up.
"Scrappy," he breathed.
Hitori whined a little and nuzzled his shoulder again.
Bakugo tensed up, so she took that as her sign that the moment was over. She rolled off of him and pushed herself up to sit. Immediately she was missing his touch. Hitori almost laid back down to try and get away with more cuddles, but he sat up before she could.
"Um, sorry," she said softly. "I didn't mean to fall asleep on you."
Bakugo shook his head and ran a hand over his face. "You're fine, don't worry about it."
His normal voice was already low, but his morning voice was even lower and rougher. Hearing it gave Hitori butterflies all over again.
"What was your memory?" He asked.
"I..." Hitori smiled slightly. "I didn't have one."
"Seriously?"
"Yeah. That's the first time I can remember not having a nightmare." She leaned into him and rested her head on his shoulder. "Thank you."
"For what?"
"Bringing me up here."
"You feel better?"
"Yeah, a lot better."
"Good."
The sky was turning pink and orange as the sun rose. Stars faded out of existence and birds started chirping in the trees. Dew shimmered on the grass. The world was peaceful.
"We should probably go down before my parents notice," Bakugo said quietly.
"Yeah, but I don't want to," Hitori complained.
Bakugo pulled out his phone and sighed. "Alright fine. We got fifteen minutes before my dad will get up for work."
Hitori smiled. Fifteen more minutes of bliss.
