Ares scanned the ship, looking for anyone worthy of picking.

There were a lot of men flooding the deck as they continued off with their duties, oblivious to the conversation between the two gods.

But one truly caught Ares' eye. A bully man with a big sword stood in front of a huge crowd of soldiers. They were chanting and cheering for some reason.

Getting a better view up the sky, the god of war noticed another person with his own sword. He groaned when he realized who it was.

"That's Athena's spawn..." He mumbled to and rolled his eyes as Odysseus positioned himself into a battle stance.

Curious, Ares just watched from above as the two men talked to each other.

"Prepare to go down, brother," the captain grinned.

The bigger man grinned as well and positioned his sword in front of himself.

"You're on, captain."

At that, the two men advanced, swords clashing and clanging against one another. The cheering became louder as some soldiers placed bets on who was going to win.

Suddenly, the buffer male almost managed to catch Odysseus off guard as he swept the sword under the captains legs. But Odysseus jumped just in time and swept his leg under the other.

With a yelp, the man tumbled and crashed on the hard, wooden floor. Ares winced as he watched the scene.

Odysseus lent out a hand for the other man to take. "You okay?"

The other nodded and took the captain's hand, pulling himself up onto his feet again.

"I'm fine," the man said, sour that he lost.

Odysseus chuckled and patted him on the back.

"I'm sure you'll get me next time."

"Yeah, yeah. You said that every time I lost to you."

"Yeah, that's true."

The god watching them raised a brow in intruigment. The man almost managed to defeat Odysseus. With enough training, he might do.

"Now, don't be sad, Eurylochus," the captain said, snapping Ares' attention toward them again.

"I'm not sad," the man-Eurylochus, said.

So that was his name, Ares thought. He leaned on one of the sails as he listened to their conversation.

The leader rolled his eyes. "Sure, you're not."

Eurylochus huffed and slung a hand on Odysseus' shoulder.

"Let's go eat," he said, desperate to take his mind off his defeat.

Odysseus chuckled at that.

"Okay." He answered, and the both of them left.

The soldiers who bet on Odysseus all gave smirks as they got their money. The ones who bet on Eurylochus groaned in frustration.

Ares hummed as he left the area. He now has a certain someone to train to defeat Athena's pupil.
