It was a lovely night, the kind where the sky was a deep navy blue, speckled with twinkling stars. I was tucked away in my cozy room, the gentle hum of my laptop filling the space, as I sunk into the comfort of my favorite hoodie. The world outside was silent, a stark contrast to the lively chatter I engaged in online.
As I scrolled through my notifications, a message popped up from Orion.
Orion Atticus Shinji sent you a friend request.
I was shocked because I didn't think that Orion would add me.
I immediately accepted it and received a message from him after.
Orion
"Hey, do you know who vincent is?"
Thalia
"Yes, i definitely know him"My heart fluttered. Vince was a notable figure at school. Tall, confident, and often the center of attention. He's my cousin, a very naughty one. To me, he radiated an intimidating energy, someone who could easily command a room just by walking into it.
Thalia
"Yeah, I know Vincent,"I replied, curiosity piqued.
Orion
"What do you think of him? Serious, right?"I laughed, feeling a surge of confidence.
Thalia
"Totally serious! He looks like he could take on the world. Very intimidating."Orion sent a flurry of emojis, and just like that, the conversation transformed into a lively banter.
We shared our opinions on Vincent, how he seemed to have an air of mystery, built by the tales of his athletic prowess and charming, albeit distant, demeanor.
I described how he often seemed unapproachable, surrounded by his close-knit circle of friends, projecting an image that could scare off even the bravest souls.
“Honestly, I thought he was untouchable,” I typed, followed by a laughing emoji.
“And yet here we are, discussing him at midnight,” Orion replied, and I couldn’t help but feel a connection grow between us through the virtual landscape.
Our laughter echoed through the night as we traded jokes and stories, easily bridging the gap of mere classmates to budding friends. I shared an embarrassing story about a time in gym class when I tripped over my own feet during a relay race, and Orion reciprocated with his own tales of blunders, each story punctuated by laughter and playful teasing.
As the conversation deepened, I found out that Orion, like me, had always been intrigued by Vincent's larger-than-life persona but held a complicated relationship with the idea of fitting in among the crowd that girded him.
We both agreed that people often misjudged who Vincent really was an athlete, sure, but also a heavy reader, known among a few select friends for his quirky taste in comic books.
It wasn't long before I realized how different Vincent appeared through the tales Orion shared, full of laughter, humility, and kindness.
“He actually helped me with a math problem once,” Orion recounted. “You’d never expect that from him.”
