Josh replied, "Until the time you are in this dress, I am not taking my eyes off you for even a second. Hopefully, this attire may help me get through the temple gates. Anyway, I always wished I could come with you to the temple someday. Maybe tell your God that he has taken care of you enough, and now I am taking over those responsibilities."
Before she could respond, her phone rumbled, and it was her father. She looked at Josh, and all the happiness on his face vanished as he anticipated what was going to happen next.
Mr. Krishnan asked in his deep, cold voice, "Where are you?"
Shivi closed her eyes momentarily, wishing he wouldn't ruin the beautiful day she was having with Josh. "I am in a mall near ECR. I am going to the Lakshmi temple in Besant Nagar."
Mr. Krishnan spoke in his insensitive tone, "Go to the temple later. My friend is near the place where you are. He will be delivering some important documents. Collect them and keep them at home. He will be there in 15 minutes."
Shivi tried to resist her dad's push. "Dad, but the temple will be closed by then."
Mr. Krishnan cut her words sharply, saying, "This is more important. At least do this for me if not for getting married to the guy whom we chose." He tried to guilt trap her.
Shivi sighed and said, "Ok."
Josh was standing close to her, able to hear everything. She looked at him as she disconnected her phone and said, "Josh, you wore veshti for going to temple... but I am sorry......."
Disappointment was evident on his face, but he didn't want to show that to her and he managed to say, "Babe, it's fine. We are going to stay here for a few more weeks, so I can use this outfit another time to go to the temple. Let me change and come. You go to the coffee shop."
Guilt washed over her as she knew she had to prioritize her father's orders once again instead of considering Josh's wishes.
Shivi said, "Ok, I will wait in the coffee shop downstairs."
Josh went inside the fitting room and looked at the mirror. A few minutes earlier, he had looked into the same mirror wearing the same outfit, excited for a new experience with Shivi. But as usual, the villain of their love story had interrupted. He shook his head, wondering why, even after disowning her, her father still controlled her. He blamed Shivi for being too good to them. He wished she had not gone back to their house. She should have stayed with him in the hotel for a few days and then returned to the UK. In fact, it was her fault for choosing to come to India to convince her parents, knowing them too well. But Shivi was Shivi; she could hardly say no to anyone. He didn't want to pick a fight over this and hurt her more. As long as her father didn't hurt her further, he was fine with it.
He wished she could distance herself from her family because they never missed an opportunity to hurt her. However, how could he possibly ask her to stay away from her own parents? He felt torn between wanting to keep her safe and understanding the love she had for her family.
Lost in thought, he made his way to the coffee shop and found Shivi sitting there with someone, presumably the person delivering the documents. Without giving much thought to the guy, who appeared to be a typical Indian in his twenties, he took a seat at a nearby table. Shivi looked flustered.
Indian Guy: I guess English would be fine; I stayed in the US all my childhood.
Shivi nodded and seemed apprehensive, and Josh couldn't help but wonder if her father's sudden change of plans was the cause. As he began to overhear their conversation, Josh quickly realized who the guy was and understood why Shivi looked like she had almost encountered a ghost.
