Chavi

I came back to my room with disappointment. I don't know what made me so upset, maybe it's because he never pulled away from me like that or maybe it's just something that felt not right, like something was bothering him. We have hugged before. He always used to hold me like... Like We belonged together. I pushed aside the thought and laid down on my bed to take a nap. I still don't know how it'd go with uncle and Dad. He should be able to convince him. I slowly fell asleep watching the ceiling of the fan.

-------------------------------------------------------

"Didi. (Sister), uncle is calling you.. didi" I woke up from my nap, shikha seems to be knocking on the door,  oh wait dad is calling, it must be about college, reality hit as I regained consciousness, "tell him, I am coming, shikha" she left and I got up, gathering some courage, I opened the door and stepped outside. My heartbeat quickened with every step as I came downstairs to the living room.

"Chavi is here" maa said looking at me, and just the next moment all eyes turned to me as if I was a criminal and this was the courtroom. I quickly searched for the pair of familiar brown eyes for support. Karthik was standing next to uncle, he held my glance and gave me an assuring blink, that's exactly what I needed.

"Come and sit here, chavi. I think we need to have a good talk". Dad told me pointing at the couch next to him, I nodded and took a seat.

"Chavi, I got to know you want to continue your studies from Delhi" I nodded looking down at my hands which were anxiously sweaty against my laps.
"Don't you think, you should have taken my permission before submitting the form or is it, that my opinion, doesn't matter to you".

"No dad, it's not like that. If you'll not allow I won't go" I said looking directly in his eyes trying to hold my
anxiousness but a tear managed to slip. I quickly looked down again.

"Arvind, look you made her cry." Kamal uncle kept a hand on my head to console. "Since she really wants to go, we should trust her and Karthik goes to Delhi almost every month or two. She will be fine."  I tried to hold my tears back and looked at my dad again.

"Yes uncle, dad is right. Raj and I can go with chavi to get her settled there and either way I go there for work purposes, so it's not completely, an unknown place" Karthik said in confirmation.

"Yeah dad and DITM is a really known and recognised institute. It's not easy to get admission there but Chavi got it. We should be proud of her capability." Raj stepped ahead, right across me on the other side of dad's couch and told.

"I agree, it's just for 2 years, and it's not like Delhi is in a different Country" maa came next to me and told dad.

I don't know about dad's decision but this moment itself is so good. The way everyone took a stand for me so selflessly, tears rolled down my eyes in a never ending flow.

Dad looked at me and finally broke the silence, "Fine, when do you need to go." Everyone's eyes lit up as he agreed.

"Thank you dad, I need to be there by Monday" I told him wiping my tears.
"Ok, Raj and Karthik will go with you. You guys can leave on Sunday night by flight, so you will get to have some rest." He confirmed. Bhai and Karthik nodded in agreement.
"Another important thing is chavi and Karthik's marriage. Kamal and I have decided to postpone their marriage, until Chavi completes her education."

"But we had already started the preparation" aunty was surprised, since she had been too excited for our marriage.

"I know but this is a well thought decision, we don't want chavi to be distracted with marriage right now." Uncle said in agreement with dad.

"Ok, I guess we will have to wait a bit more for you to be a part of our family." Aunty said pulling me in a hug.

Maa and shikha looked at me with excitement. Kamal uncle patted dad's shoulder with pride. Bhai held me in an elderly hug. Karthik nodded with a smile and just like that the day turned out to be the most beautiful day.
