Leah's POV:
Palaging may timing.
I turned around slowly, giving him a cold stare. "Still think you’ve got this in the bag?" tanong ko, medyo iniangat ang isang kilay.
He smirked, taking a step closer. "Oh, I don’t just think, Leah. I know." Ang yabang. Always so sure of himself. As if everything is just a game to him.
Alam kong gusto niyang ipakita na kontrolado niya ang sitwasyon, but I won’t give him that satisfaction.
He raised an eyebrow, the smirk never leaving his face. "I know you more than you think," bulong niya, he's so close to me right now. I could almost feel the warmth of his breath.
"And you’re predictable." Saktong malalim ang pagkakasabi niya, as if he’s already won something na hindi ko pa alam.
Napapikit ako sandali, trying to steady myself. Hindi siya pwede magtagumpay ngayon. "Kung predictable ako, bakit mo parin ako tinatalo, Ethan?" I whispered back, challenging him with my gaze.
Ngumiti siya nang matalim, but he didn’t answer. Instead, he just leaned in slightly closer, eyes locking with mine, as if daring me to break. "See you in court, Leah." He finally walked past me, brushing against my shoulder intentionally.
Huminga ako nang malalim pagkatapos niyang makalayo. Predictable? Ulitin mo ‘yan.
I tried to focus on the case, pero every time I thought about our exchange kanina, hindi ko maiwasang magtanong sa sarili ko. Is this rivalry? Or something else?
Nag-ring ang phone ko, breaking my thoughts. It was a message from Ethan. "Hope you’re ready for round two baby. Not that it matters."
I rolled my eyes but couldn’t help the small smile forming on my lips. "Game on, Ethan. Game on."
Seriously, ano bang trip ng taong ‘to? Hindi ba siya napapagod mang-asar? Pero hindi puwedeng ako ang mapikon dito. No, no. Iba to, game on na talaga.
Ethan: “Oh c’mon, Leah. Don’t take too long. We both know kung sino’ng mananalo in the end. Hint: It’s not you.”
Umirap ako kahit wala naman siyang nakikita. Aba, ang kapal ng mukha! Pero sige lang, Ethan. I got you. Pumikit ako saglit at hinintay ang tamang words, parang naghahanda bago makipaglaro ng chess.
Nagsulat ako ng mabilis:
Leah: “Don’t get too comfortable, hotshot. You might just trip on your own ego. See you in court.”
Sabay send. Perfect. Napapikit ako ulit, trying to calm the pounding of my heart. This was just a game, right? Talo o panalo, wala dapat personal.
Nag-ring na naman ang phone ko.
Ethan: “Tsk, tsk, Leah. Predictable as always. Try something new, why don’t you? Maybe then you’ll stand a chance.”
Medyo. Dapat ba akong matakot? Definitely not.
Nag-type ako ulit, this time mas mabigat:
Leah: “Let’s see who breaks first, Ethan. You might just be surprised. Round two is going to be fun.”
