It was evening, and Aditi politely mentioned that she needed to leave.
Sunaina, as always, insisted she stay the night, but Aditi, with her usual grace, declined.
After some back-and-forth, Sunaina finally agreed but with one condition-Neil would drop her off at the NGO.
Aditi couldn't refuse when Sunaina gave her that strict, motherly look, and to everyone's surprise, she nodded.
Neil, on the other hand, was trying his best to keep a straight face.
Inside, his heart was dancing with joy at the chance to be alone with Aditi, but he hid it under a calm exterior.
As they both walked out to the car, he couldn't help the giddiness bubbling inside him.
They were now sitting in the car, Neil behind the wheel, sneaking glances at her from time to time.
Aditi noticed but remained silent, her thoughts distant as the quiet hum of the engine filled the space between them.
The silence lingered until Neil finally broke it.
"So, Aditi," he began cautiously, "what do you think about marriage?"
Her body stiffened at the question, and Neil noticed immediately.
He knew why-it was a sensitive topic, one she tried to avoid, but he also wanted to help her open up, to heal.
She stayed silent for a moment before responding quietly, "I'm happy the way I am."
Neil glanced at her again, sensing the weight of her words. "Kyun?" he asked gently.
Aditi sighed, her eyes still focused out the window. "Neil, you know everything. Then why are you asking?"
"Exactly," he said softly. "I know everything-that's why I'm asking."
She clenched her jaw and replied, "Mujhe iss baare mein baat nahi karni."
He nodded but didn't give up. "Baat nahi karne se problem solve nahi hoti, Aditi."
She gave a sad smile, her voice softer now. "Kehna bahut aasan hai, Neil."
He glanced at her again, his tone more serious. "You know, karna bhi aasan hai. Bas thoda sa vishwas aur himmat chahiye, then you're ready to take on the world."
Aditi turned to look at him, surprised.
No man had ever said anything like this to her before.
His words lingered in her mind. "I don't know," she said quietly, "because the past is so horrifying that I'm afraid my future will never be happy again."
Neil sighed, his voice tender but firm. "You have to try, Aditi. Aur future ki abhi se kyun soch rahi ho? Humein kya pata ki kya hone wala hai? Just live in the present, make it beautiful, and your future will automatically follow."
A faint smile crept onto Aditi's face as his words sank in. "You're right," she said softly. "Lekin... main yeh karne ke liye capable nahi hoon."
Neil frowned, glancing at her with concern. "And why do you think that?"
She hesitated, her voice trembling slightly. "Because I'm vulnerable and weak... that's why."
At that, Neil immediately pulled the car to a stop. Aditi looked around and realized they had arrived at the NGO.
She opened the door, stepping out and softly saying, "Thank you."
