Staying with Aresius didn't seem as bad as I thought

Staying with Aresius didn't seem as bad as I thought. That was until I woke up to him getting ready at 5am to go to the gym.

I sighed, getting out of bed and leaning against the door of his home gym as he worked out. He was wearing grey sweats and a black long sleeve. He looked good, I won't deny that.

"You gonna stare at me all day?" He grunted out as he was doing bench pressing.

I pushed myself off the door and walked over, sitting on a mat. "It's 5 am, Ares. You woke me up. You could be just a tad bit nice." I got a glare in response.

He put the weights down and sat up, looking at me with those piercing blue eyes. "Have you taken your medicine?" He asked, taking a sip of his water.

"Nope. And I don't plan to before breakfast." I said, the only issue, I couldn't eat breakfast on most days before 11am. Some days I had my stomach growling at 6am already and then on some I haven't eaten at 4pm yet.

"I'll order you something." He said as he stood up, holding a hand out for me to help me up. I took it then immediately dropped it and we walked back to the living room.

I sat on his couch, my legs pulled up as Mase came over to me and I gave him belly rubs, kissing his head. I missed Mase, I missed a lot of things Aresius Kingsley had, but I would never admit it.

Breakfast arrived and we ate in silence, watching some shows on the tv. When we were done he threw away our trash and told me he has some work to do so he left for his home office.

I sighed. I didn't want to be a dancer anymore but I also didn't want to be his assistant in business. I didn't want to see him and put myself through of the pain of being near him everyday. When we still danced together, it hurt how we could do so intimate moves and he didn't feel anything. How could he?

Mom texted me, checking up on me and when I told her I wasn't at home but rather at Ares's she didn't respond for a good ten minutes.

I looked up as I heard footsteps and saw Ares emerging from his study. "Can we talk?" I asked.

He nodded and just sat down, barely looking at me.

I huffed and turned to him. "I want to resign from my post as your assistant." I said, not playing around the bush.

His jaw clenched. "As you wish. I'll get you this month's paycheck." I stopped him though.

"No need. I didn't work this week." He didn't listen and gave it to me anyways, not letting me put it back down and only gave a satisfied grunt once I gave up and put it into my bag.

"Anything else?" He asked, but I shook my head before thinking twice about it. "Actually yeah. There's a scene in my head where you call yourself my future husband, like a memory. Any clue why?"

He shakes his head. "Nope."

"Hm."

He clears his throat before handing me a basket of things and I furrow my brows. The first thing I see is a bonnet and my favorite leave in condition. I look up at him. "What's this for?" I ask.

"For you. Your hair." He said and I swear he looked nervous.

"I-um...thank you, Aresius." I said.

He nods before shifting on his feet. "I have to, um, paperwork." He says and I nod.

"Yeah, yeah. I'm going to rest for a bit." I said and sat on the couch.

He went back to his home office and after some time I got bored on the couch and went back up to his room where I've been staying to pack my stuff together.

I put my packed duffle bag on the bag before doing one last check everywhere to make sure I don't leave anything here, but even if I did Aresius would sooner or later return it anyway.

Just as I get to the last drawer of his bedside table I spot a small velvet box in it. I furrow my brows because that's definitely not my stuff and know I should probably leave it, but curiosity gets the better of me.

I sit on the edge of the bed and take out the box into my hand, looking at the design. I slowly prop the top open and my eyes widen when the shiny diamond ring stares back at me.

I cover my mouth as I stare at it, the little piece of paper of when it was purchased falling out of it. I pick it up and if it's possible, more air gets knocked out of me.

It was purchased right after the day when Aresius—

I snap the box shut, not before taking a photo of it and the piece of paper, and then standing up with my bags.

I walk downstairs just as Aresius gets out of his office and he looks at me with furrowed brows and opens his mouth to speak but I cut him off before he could. "Don't. I'll call a cab or something. Thank you for everything, I owe you one, but I've overstayed my welcome."

"Delilah—" He tries again, but I'm already out the front door and walking down the street, calling a cab. Inside the car I can't help but think about what I saw and what I was going to do next. It that ring was meant for me.....

I shake my head and suppress the tears, blinking fast. "Palm street, please." I said, changing the directions instead of going home to my mom.

If I wanted answers there's only one person who could provide me with them.
