“Jhavni, we need to talk,” her mother said, her voice steady but laced with a hint of urgency.

“What’s going on?” Jhavni asked, her brow furrowing with concern. She felt a knot forming in her stomach, sensing that whatever they needed to discuss was important—and perhaps life-changing.

Her mother gestured for her to sit down, and Jhavni hesitated for a moment before taking a seat across from them. Her father’s gaze was serious, and that only heightened her anxiety. “You’re scaring me,” she admitted, shifting uncomfortably on the couch.

Her heart thumping louder than the clock ticking on the wall. Her parents exchanged a glance before her father cleared his throat, and she couldn’t help but feel a mixture of curiosity and nervous anticipation. Her mother’s expression was serious, which only added to the gravity of the situation.

“Jhavni,” her father began, his voice calm but laced with an unusual gravity. “We’ve been thinking a lot about your future.”

Jhavni’s mind raced. Is this another talk about my career? She could feel her parents’ gazes weighing heavily on her, but something in the air told her this conversation wasn’t about internships or jobs. She remained silent, waiting for them to continue.

Her mother took over, her voice soft but firm. “You’re at an age, not actually too old, we are getting old, we have to think a future for your sister also, beta we are from middle class family, now  we think it’s important to start considering certain… possibilities. We’ve had a conversation with someone.”

Jhavni’s breath caught, her heart skipping a beat. “What do you mean?” she asked, trying to sound calm, but her mind was already connecting the dots.

Her father spoke up, his tone more serious than she had anticipated. “We’ve been approached by a family. They’re respectable people, and we think this could be a good match for you.”

Match? The word sent a thrill through her. Her heart raced with nervousness but her delulu side is somewhat excited, but she kept her expression neutral. Inside, though, she was already imagining herself in one of the Wattpad stories she loved—the classic arranged marriage trope where the shy, ordinary girl is paired with a brooding, handsome man maybe the king of Rajasthan or a Ceo.

Her mother watched her carefully. “I know this might seem sudden, but the family is well-respected, and the boy... he’s well-educated, has a good job, and we think he’d be a good partner for you.”

Jhavni bit her lip to suppress the wide smile threatening to break free. An arranged marriage! Just like the stories! She had secretly fantasized about this scenario for years—an unexpected proposal, a mysterious fiancé, the awkward tension that would slowly turn into love. Although, she wants many of her favorite tropes to come true, but Arrange Marriage it’s her favourite, and the best part is just like those Wattpad stories, she was never in any relationship.

But she kept her expression serious, nodding thoughtfully. “I understand,” she said, trying her best to sound mature and contemplative.

Her father leaned forward, concern etched in his features. “Jhavni, we don’t want to rush you, but we think it’s worth considering, meeting the family is not going to be a issue. This isn’t a decision to be taken lightly. If you feel uncomfortable or unsure, we want you to tell us.”

Jhavni nodded again, pretending to mull over their words, but inside she was already daydreaming about the unknown man who could possibly be her future husband. What would he look like? Would he be as handsome and brooding as the heroes in my stories?
