Society

Society is a word we live in everyday, a word that decides the way the world will work, certain rules and norms fixed by a singular word. The things we should and shouldn't do are decided by a word.

They say people are born different, but why does it feel like we're all the same. Us brainwashed into the same system, they expect perfection. (Bangchan, Straykids).

Click, click, click...

This is the everyday life of an office worker, just click, click, click- no... delete that. That won't be a good reason. I'm resigning today. I get up once my letter is printed, fold it up and put it in the brown envelope.

"Come in!" I hate this voice, cranky and always bickering about something.

I see him at his table, signing the documents that his assistant probably dropped off. "Oh Hwang, what did you need?" There it was, the moment had come, I handed him the letter and instantly saw the disbelief on his face. I can hear him yelling my name as I walked out and grabbed my box that was sitting on the edge of the desk I worked at for 7 years, what a hell of 7 years.

I can hear the whispering among the new colleagues, "How could he quit a good job.", "I heard he was the longest working employee here". Just shut up will you.

The old colleagues either quit or got fired in the past 7 years, the company was at a downfall so they started accepting whoever applied for the job. Cosmetic's company, there were many complaints about this company and its products, they promoted animal testing, poor souls that can't speak to defend themselves from cruel humans'.

"You will never find a better position or better job than this! You're losing everything with this decision Hwang!" I don't care, a person who has already lost everything has nothing to lose.

I'm exhausted, I need rest... I need her, it's been 11 years already, crazy how time goes by so fast yet so slow and gut wrenching. Forget it Hyunjin, what's been done has been done and over.

I need some drinks, "Seungmin, are you free tonight?" Thank god he was available. I pulled into the parking lot, it's been awhile since i've come here.

There he was, Seungmin, the only one I could rely on after losing everything. I faintly smiled then made my way over, "Finally did it?" I nodded, he knew I was contemplating and thinking about quitting for a long time. "I'm happy for you, finally you can use your talent in the right places."

I don't get what talent he always talks about that I have, I'm talentless, I've always felt that way. "Yeah..." I didn't know what to say, he knew that much too. "Here, drink up, you deserve a break." I chugged it down, I needed more, to drink off all my sorrow and mistakes.

It's past midnight, I'm not in any shape of driving, my head is resting on my arms. I hear the clink of his glass, I can't see him, my head is facing downwards. "I know you're going to refuse any help, but I have an offer Hyunjin." I moved my head to the side to look at him, he chuckled, my face was probably red from all the drinking. I'll listen to what he has to say.

Then he went back to a stern persona, "Here's the card, remember Jeongin?" The name was blurry, I don't remember. "Not really..."

"Jeongin the guy who went to the bar after his girlfriend broke up with him, I was busy so you had to pick him up, does that ring a bell?" Ah, that guy.

I nodded, "He works at this company, I think you should apply here. It's about clothing designs and fashion, Jeongin is one of the managers at the company, you can use your sketching skills to get in."
