The weekend had finally arrived, and my family was coming into town today to take Cyan and I for dinner to celebrate River's birthday. River was the eldest out of the four of us. Michael wasn't at school that day, and Nicole had no lectures, so when I arrived at our dorm room\ suite, she was already there.
"Hey," I said as I came in.
"Kia ora," she replied.
"Huh?"
She shrugged.
"I think it means hello. Not sure in which language though."
"Ah," I said. "I'll be off campus for the weekend," I tell her as I pack some clothes into a duffel bag.
"That's alright," she said. "Neither am I actually."
I nod before hurrying into my bathroom through the closet. Then I remembered I hadn't gotten him a gift yet.
I got dressed quickly, putting on a pair of tight blue jeans and a white cropped shirt with green, vertical stripes over my baby blue panties and bra. I matched it with green and white sneakers. I braided my hair into another french braid and ran to my dresser to grab my wallet, which I shoved into my tote bag 🛍️. I didn't really do handbags, and only wore them when I had to.
I grabbed my duffel bag, put my phone in my pocket, and I was ready.
"Are you going right now?" Nicole asked from behind me.
She was dressed casually in gray shorts and a white hoodie.
"Yeah, I am," I said.
She smiled softly.
"Come back, okay? I'm glad to have met you."
I run the six feet to get to her and pull her into a hug.
"I will," I said firmly. "Thanks for existing."
She laughed.
"That's a weird thing to say."
"I'm weird like that."
More like deranged.
My phone chimed, and I took it out of my pocket to read the message.
It was from dad.
Papa Bear: We're in the parking lot.
Me: We're on our way.
❤️❤️😎
Me: Again, that is NOT how you use the cool emoji.
Papa Bear: 🥺 🐻
I
chuckled and put my phone back into my pocket.
"G'bye Nicci, see you later!" I called from out the door.
"Likewise, Scar!"
I hurried through the halls, down the stairs, zipped through the common room, past a few more hallways, and I was out of House Dragon's grounds. I bounded across the university's endless acres of land and raced to the parking lots, which were on campus grounds.
I skidded to a halt before the sleek, black Lexus. I knew then that River and Nikolav weren't there because otherwise they would have brought one of the bigger cars.
Cyan had beat me there.
"Mom, dad!" I said. It had only been a week, but I had missed them terribly.
"We're glad to see you two, Red," mom said as they wrapped their arms around me.
