There she was, his girl, his Amy, he promised to never hurt her but he did. He was the first and only man to ever break her heart, as she promised herself at a very young age to never give anyone else the opportunity to do it again.

He had been acting differently: quieter and kept distancing himself from her, she noticed more than he thought. She was only 5 years old but she'd always been smarter than most: she noticed how late he came home every night, how he never sat down to eat with them anymore, how he started "falling asleep on the couch" more and more often. Nothing could've prepared her for what was coming.

Monday morning came around, like most 5 year olds, she got herself dressed (her mom had laid her clothes down for her). She put on her favorite black dress and a bow in her hair. She ran down to the living room to greet her father like she did every morning.

What she wasn't expecting was to see her mom sat on the couch crying, why was she home? she was supposed to leave for work at 6. "mama?" said little amelia walking up to her mom noticing the piece of paper in her hands. She sat down next to her and hugged her, "why are you sad?".

Her mom looked down at her: swollen eyes and red, wet cheeks. "good morning amy.." she said barely above a whisper. "where's daddy?" she asked so innocently, unaware that her life just changed forever. She didn't know what she was expecting but her mom breaking down in sobs at the question wasn't it.

"mama what's wrong?" she asked, her own eyes filling up with tears, "is daddy okay?" she continued. No reply yet again, she grabbed the paper from the table where her mom had put it down, she couldn't read much, she was only 5 after all but she could make out some words. "goodbye" "sorry".

She didn't know what that meant but by the state her mom was in, she knew it couldn't be good. "mama?" she called out yet again, "yes my darling?" her mom managed to get out between sobs trying not to choke on her words. The little girl didn't speak up tho, just threw herself onto her mom's lap and hugged her.

They stayed like that for a while, just holding each other, she didn't fully understand what was happening but she knew they both needed to be with each other. After what felt like hours, she pulled away looking up at her mom's face, the tears had stopped falling down but her expression remained the same.

It was now way too late to go to school anyway, not that either of them were thinking about that. She got off her lap and reached into her hello kitty backpack, that he got for her a couple months prior on her birthday, she grabbed her water bottle and handed it to the older woman. "here you go, mama".

She grabbed the bottle and took a few sips, kissing her daughter on the forehead. "I'm sorry darling" she said lowly, she sat her down on the couch and carefully and slowly explained to her that the man she loved so much, that she trusted more than anyone else in the world, that swore to never hurt her in anyway had just left them.

She was quiet for a long and painful 10 minutes before finally speaking up, "it's okay mama, you have me and I have you". She looked almost numb, except for the tears forming in her eyes.

Her mom picked her up and hugged her, they just sat there for so long until both their eyes dried out. "why did he leave? is he gonna come back? does he still love us?", she was asking questions neither of them knew the answers to, why did he just walk away? was he gonna come back? did he still have even an ounce of love for them left in him?

So many years passed, she wasn't a sad and broken 5 year old kid anymore, but an angry and resentful 38 year woman. One thing hasn't changed tho, her need for answers. Why did he think it was okay to just walk out on them the way he did? Why did he have to break her heart at such a young age as well as her mom's.

She never stopped looking for him, she had to get the answers, no matter how long it'll take. Was she ever gonna find him..?

A/N: this is probably gonna be part of a 3 chapters long "story", depending on whether or not I have the time/motivation to update it.
