2nd of September 2004, 12:00 PMThe rest of the day passed in a strange sort of haze for Galateya. She was unsure what exactly they were trying to do, yet she trusted her companion without question. There was something about the cloaked traveler---this man she now called Romani---that gave her a sense of security, even if she could not fully understand his actions or motivations. His movements were always deliberate, his amber eyes constantly scanning their surroundings, as if expecting danger to emerge from any shadow. Every now and then, his muscles would tense under the folds of his cloak, and his hand would shift to his side, though the shrouded traveler never explained why.
They meandered through Fuyuki City's quiet streets, stopping at various points as though following a path only Romani could see. They visited places that seemed ordinary to Galateya, but the shrouded man observed everything with an intensity that she found perplexing. Once, they passed by an old shop selling antiques, where the traveler paused for what felt like an eternity, staring at the cracked window as if the dusty relics within held some long-forgotten secret. He said nothing, just stood in silence, his hand resting on her shoulder, before finally guiding her onward.
They passed a small park, where children her age played under the watchful eyes of their parents. Galateya watched them with a mixture of curiosity and wistfulness, her small hand still holding tightly to Romani’s cloak. "Can we play too?" she asked, her innocent gaze rising to meet his.
Romani glanced down at her, his expression unreadable beneath the shadows of his hood. "Not today," he replied, his voice soft yet final, as if play were a distant luxury neither of them could afford. His words carried an underlying weight that even Galateya’s young mind could sense, though she did not fully understand why.
They made their way to the local library next, a grand, old building with tall windows and arched doorways that seemed to breathe history. Inside, it was quiet---only the soft rustling of pages and the distant whispers of readers could be heard. Romani moved with purpose, guiding Galateya to a secluded corner.
Inside the quiet sanctum of the library, time seemed to stretch, the stillness only broken by the soft rustling of old paper and the occasional sound of a chair being shifted. The scent of aged books filled the air, a subtle mixture of dust, leather, and parchment that Galateya found strangely comforting. The cloaked traveler, Romani, sat at a small wooden table in one of the dimmer corners, a massive tome spread before him, its pages yellowed and brittle with age.
Galateya, perched on the chair beside him, swung her legs idly, the tips of her shoes barely brushing the floor. Her small gloved hands traced invisible patterns on the table's surface as she glanced around at the rows of shelves stretching up into the gloom above, filled with books she could barely even imagine reading.
Romani seemed entirely absorbed in his task, his amber eyes scanning line after line of text that appeared to be written in an ancient language. Every so often, his fingers would trail lightly over a passage, his brow furrowing in thought. Galateya watched him in silence for a few moments, the curiosity bubbling up inside her too strong to contain.
