It was a warm Saturday, and the Brock household had been buzzing with the excitement of Family Day. Sam Golbach, the children's beloved "uncle" and Colby's best friend, had planned a full day of fun with his girlfriend, Katrina Stuart. They wanted to give the kids a day filled with memories, and Xander, especially, was looking forward to it. He loved spending time with Sam, who always made him feel special, and he'd always admired Katrina's gentle kindness.

The day began with a visit to the park, where Xander, Xavier, and Victoria laughed and played under the watchful eyes of Sam and Katrina. Colby and Valerie were busy with the younger two, leaving Xander free to explore and be himself. Sam took him by the hand, helping him climb to the top of the play structure, while Katrina waited at the bottom, cheering him on with a wide smile.

"Look, Katrina! I'm going down the big slide!" Xander called, his face lighting up as he glanced over his shoulder.

"Go for it, Xander!" Katrina encouraged, her voice warm and supportive. "You're doing amazing!"

As Xander slid down, he felt a surge of pride. The park seemed bigger and brighter with Sam and Katrina by his side. Sam would run ahead, laughing as he let Xander chase him around the playground, while Katrina stayed close, taking pictures and cheering Xander on whenever he tried something new.

Later, they had a small picnic under a shady tree. Xander sat between Sam and Katrina, a big grin on his face as he munched on a sandwich. While Xavier and Victoria were closer to their parents, Xander felt like he was part of a little family with Sam and Katrina. They laughed at his jokes, listened to his stories, and even shared little treats with him that they'd brought just for him.

After lunch, Katrina brought out a coloring book, and she and Xander spent some time coloring together. She patiently guided him as he chose colors, helping him make each page vibrant and lively. Xander loved every second of it; he could tell Katrina was really paying attention to him, making him feel seen and valued in a way he didn't often experience.

"Do you like the color blue, Xander?" Katrina asked, noticing his preference for blue shades.

Xander nodded eagerly. "Blue is my favorite! It reminds me of the sky and... and Sam's shirt!"

Sam laughed, looking down at his blue shirt. "Hey, I like that! We can be the blue team for today."

Xander's face lit up, thrilled at the idea. "Yeah! The blue team!" He pumped his fist in the air, and Katrina laughed along with him, her heart warmed by his excitement.

The day continued with a trip to the zoo. Sam lifted Xander onto his shoulders, giving him a better view of the animals as they wandered through each exhibit. Xander's eyes sparkled as he saw lions, elephants, and penguins, pointing excitedly and calling out facts he'd remembered from books. Sam would listen to every word, adding in little jokes or asking questions to keep Xander engaged, making the whole experience feel like an adventure.

Katrina, meanwhile, held his hand whenever they walked, guiding him and making him feel safe. At one point, they passed by the gift shop, where Katrina bought him a small stuffed penguin. Xander held onto it tightly, naming it "Pebbles" and promising to take care of it forever.

As the day wound down, they returned to the Brock house, where Sam and Katrina helped Xander settle into the cozy couch. Xander's energy had finally run out, and he curled up, resting his head on Katrina's shoulder while Sam sat nearby, reading him a story. The room was filled with a quiet warmth, a feeling of peace that Xander wished could last forever.

When Valerie and Colby finally came into the room, Xander looked up, feeling a pang of sadness as he realized his day with Sam and Katrina was ending. Sam noticed and gave him a gentle hug, ruffling his hair.

"Today was awesome, Xander. We're so lucky to have spent it with you," Sam said with a smile.

Katrina leaned down, her voice soft as she spoke. "Anytime you want another adventure, we'll be here for you, okay?"

Xander smiled, hugging them both tightly. "Thank you... for everything. Today was the best."

As Sam and Katrina said their goodbyes, Xander felt his heart swell with gratitude. The day had been perfect, filled with love and laughter. And even though it was just one day, it meant everything to him. He knew that Sam and Katrina would always be there, his very own safe haven, a family he could count on in every way
