"Go ahead," I said, my voice shaky and my eyes watering. "Shoot me. If you're so strong, it wouldn't really matter if I lived or not."Eli's fingers were shaking. The gun trembled in his hands and the pointer finger of his right hand remained on the trigger.
"Eli..." I muttered softly.
"SHUT UP!" he yelled.
I flinched and looked into his eyes. I knew the real Eli was in there and I wasn't going to give up until I got him back. For a moment, I surveyed my chances of getting through to him as he dropped the gun from a shooting position and held it to his side, lifting the opposite hand up to his forehead.
I figured that if I rushed forward, he would be startled & he wouldn't have a lot of time to react. If I continued to stand here like a statue, I wouldn't have a chance. I decided it was worth a go.
I gathered myself and pushed forward with a newfound speed and caught Eli by surprise. As he tried to raise the gun, I barreled forward into his chest, knocking him over. I heard the gun skidding across the floor and smirked. Suddenly, Eli pushed me off and started towards the gun. I stood quickly and raced to the gun, kicking it far away from where we were.
In anger, Eli growled and tackled me to the floor by my waist, effectively knocking the air out of my lungs. I gasped at the sudden jolt of pain that ran down my back. Eli proceeded to climb on top of me and take my neck in his large, thick hands and began choking the life out of me.
"Eli," I gasped, clawing at his arms harshly. "Please it's me... it's me: Aria."
By now, my eyes were watering and I felt my eyelids growing heavy, but I couldn't let him win. I mustered all the strength my body had and brought my knee up to kick him in his butt. His grip on my neck loosened in the slightest and I hit him in the jaw. As he rolled off me, I took several breaths and clutched my sore throat. He groaned beside me and I pushed myself to climb on top of him. I punched him in the face repeatedly, trying to knock him out. When I was about to punch again, he grabbed the arm I lifted and twisted it. I yelled and brought about my other arm and slapped him.
His head lulled to the side and I knocked it against the floor to make him stay down. He lay there for a minute and I backed away from him in case he tried to attack me again. After a few minutes of silence, minus my heavy breathing, Eli started to shift from his position on the floor.
He looked at me and held my eyes in an intense gaze. The green in his eyes seemed to sparkle now more than ever. His tan hair was disheveled and he had a thin line of blood running along his forehead.
"A-Aria," he spoke, watching me cautiously.
"Yea... it's me," I replied, trying to keep my voice steady.
"What's going on? What happened?"
I decided not to sugarcoat anything.
"You tried to kill me. Twice." I said, averting my eyes.
"No, I- I would nev-"
"But you did, Eli! You did try to shoot me and choke me. It was real. It happened. And, I thought I wouldn't be able to stop you at first."
"Aria, you know that had nothing to do with me. It was all him and you know it. You're the only person who can get through to the real me when he comes around. I'm sorry that he went as far as trying to kill you, I really am."
I frowned and looked down. He was right. I was blaming him for something he didn't consciously do. I wish he had never agreed to take that pill. Then there wouldn't be another Eli who hated me and shared a mind with the Eli that loved me. There's only a thin line between love and hate, and I've just realized how thin that line really is.
AN: This one is kind of bad in my opinion. 😕
