"You need to leave!" the voice inside my head screamed at me. I was only five years old and the voice screamed at me to leave, to run away. Backster purrs next to me, trying to calm me down. Today daddy was taking my older sister and me into the woods near our house for a test of our abilities. He always said I was supposed to be his strongest child but he messed up when making me and now I'm just the disappointment of the Flower family. I've never met any other members of the family outside of daddy so I believe his words even when the strange voice tries telling me otherwise. I mean why else would they never visit if they aren't disappointed in me? What happened in the woods that night? My sister almost killed me but I somehow fell through the ground. "It's one of your powers...what are you going to do now?" the voice asks.

".......I don't know" I admit but start walking, blood dripping down my arm. No one seems to care, a kid walking around blood dripping down their body and not a single person asks if I'm alright or need help. Backster gives me a worried growl and rubs against me, allowing me to lean on him. "Thanks...everything hurts" I whisper to him as we find a lonely abandoned building to stay in for a bit. Backster licks my wounds, helping to slow the bleeding but it all hurts. Sitting there, I tried erasing my emotions like mommy always said I had to in order to become strong enough to make daddy and the family proud.

"She's here..." the voice warned and I looked up as I heard muffled voices.

"It says he's over here" a woman's voice says.

A male responds "You're right dear...we should be careful. I'm sure he's frightened already." The two voices wound the corner, carefully entering the crumbling building. Backster growls dangerously as he places himself between them and me. They both stop, staring at the two of us. I struggle to stand up, deciding that if this was how I died, I'd die fighting. The look on the woman's face though had me confused. She looked...worried?

"Oh my...please sweetie, we're not going to hurt you" she whispers in a gentle tone.

"She's telling the truth. Trust her" the voice in my head whispers. I could barely walk as one step had me stumbling into Backster's side, squeaking in pain at the sudden burst of pain in my side. The woman makes a move toward me before stopping at Backster's dangerous growl.

"I-It's ok Backster..." I whisper before passing out.
