Just Another Day with Baby Tayden

Tim knew today was going to be one for the books as soon as he picked up his phone and propped it on the changing table to record a video for Lucy. Since they had baby Tayden, these little video updates had become a way to stay connected and share in all the adorable — and sometimes chaotic — moments that filled their days. Tim was off work today, and Lucy was on duty, so while Tayden cooed and wriggled on the changing table, Tim figured he'd capture the "Dad on Duty" experience for her.

As the camera started rolling, Tim gave it a playful look, tilting his head toward Tayden and laughing softly.
Tim- Alright, little man, we're gonna get you all cleaned up here.
He changed Tayden's diaper with ease, making goofy faces and talking in that gentle, dad-way he saved just for his son.
Tim- Looking sharp, aren't we?
He chuckled, snapping the fresh diaper into place.

Just as he finished the last fastening, Tayden's face scrunched up — a tiny but unmistakable baby expression Tim was learning to recognize. Right on cue, as though it was planned, there was another incident. Tim looked at his son in pure disbelief, his jaw dropping before he burst into laughter.
Tim- Are you serious, buddy? Really? I mean, we just did this!
He said, shaking his head, as if his four-month-old could understand the utter betrayal his dad was feeling.

But Tim wasn't one to back down from a challenge, even if it came in the form of a diaper change. As he set to work cleaning up Tayden again, he muttered.
Tim- Alright, round two it is. Let's get this done, buddy.
But fate wasn't done with him yet.

Just as he leaned in to lift Tayden for a new diaper, a warm spray hit his arm, and Tim froze in shock, feeling the inevitable slow spread of baby pee soaking his sleeve.
Tim- Dude... are you kidding me right now?
He groaned, throwing his head back in exasperation, but unable to stop the laughter bubbling up.
Tim- You're lucky you're cute, you know that?

The whole time, baby Tayden just gazed up at him with those big, innocent eyes, as if to say, Yeah, Dad. I totally planned that.

Tim's face softened into a grin as he got Tayden cleaned up yet again, finally snapping the last tab into place and holding his son up like a tiny victory trophy.
Tim- Well, we did it, little guy.
He said, giving the camera a look of triumph before pointing at Tayden.
Tim- But that's it, kid. That's the last diaper I'm ever changing. Not doing this again.
He added, with mock seriousness.

At the end of the video, Tim leaned down, pretending to kiss the camera lens as if he were kissing Lucy.
Tim- Alright, babe. I'm clocking out. Your turn when you get home!
He said, laughing as he ended the video.

Lucy's phone buzzed in her pocket as she sat down in the precinct's break room, taking a rare quiet moment to herself. She opened the message from Tim, and sure enough, it was a video — one of his little "Dad on Duty" updates that had become a routine between them on their opposite schedules. A smile tugged at her lips as she pressed play.

The video started with Tim leaning over baby Tayden, who lay on the changing table looking as innocent as a four-month-old could. A few minutes in, she could see Tim pausing, eyebrows raised, as he realized he'd need to change Tayden's diaper again.
Tim- Are you serious, buddy?
Tim muttered, clearly amused but already worn out by his pint-sized troublemaker.

Lucy chuckled out loud, watching Tim tackle round two with an exaggerated sigh and a smile that she knew meant he was wrapped around Tayden's tiny finger. But the video wasn't over yet. Just as Tim changed him again, a tiny spray hit him square in the arm. Tim's face twisted into a mix of disbelief and amusement as he groaned.
Tim- Dude... are you kidding me right now?

Lucy couldn't hold back her laughter, her shoulders shaking as she watched her husband's attempt at keeping a straight face through the chaos. It was clear he was trying not to lose it on camera — for her sake, probably — but it wasn't long before he cracked, giving the camera a look of mock-defeat.
Tim- That's it. Last diaper I'm ever changing.
He had said, though they both knew that was a promise he'd break within hours.

Lost in her laughter, she didn't notice Aaron walking past until he stopped, grinning at her reaction.
Aaron- What's so funny?
Lucy- Oh, just Tim's... adventures with Tayden.
She replied, still grinning as she locked her phone, tucking it close to her.
Aaron raised a brow, intrigued.
Aaron- Anything worth sharing?
Lucy- Absolutely not.
She shook her head, chuckling, feeling just a little possessive of the moment, plus she wasn't the one to share everything, private things of her baby.
Lucy- This one's for the family vault.

She could already picture the day they'd show Tayden this video, laughing about it and all the little memories his dad and she had captured over the years. It was a small, hilarious moment, but one that was theirs — a reminder of just how much love, laughter, and surprises came with having a family.
