"do we need to pick your friends up later?" zach questioned as he sat on the edge of the bed and watched her do her makeup in the full length mirror ahead of their dinner date. "or can we take my car?"

"um, they're happy to uber to the station.. but we do need to fix my bags in your car..?"

"yeah," he glanced over at her suitcase on the side of the room. "it should fit in the trunk as long as i've got nothing in there."

"okay"

"and it's.. nine? that you leave?"

"um ten, but i'd like to be there around nine, please, cause that'll give me a chance to get changed into something more comfortable and take my makeup off before getting on the train."

"easy."

estelle glanced over her shoulder at the boy for a little longer as he exited the room. self-doubt washing over as the interaction they just had felt strange to her.

essie stop

he's taking you out for dinner

he's probably just wanting to
make sure you don't miss the train

she kept reminding herself those simple things as she tried to settle her doubts and finish her makeup. after all she didn't want to break down in tears and make something so small and probably unmeaningful into a big deal.

eventually finishing up, she packed up her makeup bag and packed it into her suitcase before grabbing her dress and heading to the bathroom to change.

and soon enough she was ready for their date and had her bag and suitcase all packed ready for her trip home, backpack on her back and wheeling her suitcase out to the living room where zach said he'd be waiting.

"damn," he slightly mumbled under his breath as he stood up, shoving his phone into the pocket of his pants. grabbing her hand as she let go of the suitcase and pulling her in closer to himself. "you look good."

"thank you," she flashed a small partly awkward smile.

"you ready to go?"

"mhm," she nodded.

"let's get going then," he kept ahold of her hand as he begun leading them to the front door.

getting outside, zach opened the trunk of his car and took estelle suitcase from her, the bag just fitting inside before the both went and got into the car. the girl placing her backpack on the at the feet.

driving the little over half an hour route to the restaurant, he pulled up in the valet, getting out of the car zach handed his keys over to the staff before grabbing the girl's hand and leading her inside.

once they were sat at their table, estelle was paying extra attention as she looked over the menu. feeling her heart sink a little while look at the cost of the food.

"zach.." she softly spoke as she glanced up to the boy sitting across from her, receiving a small hum in response. "are you sure about.. this place..? it's kind of.. pricey.."

"it's fine, i chose the place, i knew how much it'd cost," he brushed it off.

"okay," she softly nodded.

she continued to scan the menu, particularly looking at the cheaper of the options as she decided on what she wanted. their waiter soon coming over and taking their order.

"are you sure didn't want a drink?" zach questioned the girl after she ordered a glass of water.

"i'm not twenty-one yet, remember.."

"oh right," he nodded. "anyway.. so did you enjoy your weekend here?"

"i did," she returned the action. "and um.. i'm sorry that.. last night didn't really go.. how you hoped.."

"it's fine, we don't have to talk about it."

"okay.."

"what do you have on this week?" zach then asked as he tried to make things a little less awkward.

"um.. just classes and work, the usual.. what about you?"

"uh nothing important," he shrugged. "might throw a party at jack's house," he chuckled to himself as she slowly nodded. "i'm jokin' adalyn would murder me. i'm probably just going to go back to mine."

".. could you please tell your friends thank you for letting me stay this weekend, and florence and dylan on friday morning."

"yeah, i mean it was their idea anyway."

"i know, but.. saying thank you is still the nice thing to do."

"i'll tell them," he nodded. "now enough about my friends, tell me.. your favorite thing about the weekend?"

"um.." her attention was soon turned to the waiter as he brought over their drinks, sending him a soft smile and a; "thank you."

"did you enjoy the party?" zach then asked despite her still not answering the last question.

"it was.. fun, yeah," she nodded.

"would you be down for some more if you came back?"

"i would maybe like if could do some more activities.."

"what sort of activities?"

"i want to do the touristy things.. the walk of fame, a hike to the hollywood sign-"

"oh yeah, you did mention that.. i just thought it would be too much this time," he shrugged and took a sip of his drink. "make sure we're.. you know, compatible.. leave all that other shit for the future."

"mh, yeah.. that.. makes sense.." she awkwardly nodded.
