"You look ravishing," a voice murmured from behind her. Yoko didn't need to turn; she already knew who it was-it was always her. The warm breath grazing her shoulder was enough to make her shiver, but she kept her posture firm. "As always," the woman added with a smirk in her voice.
Yoko turned abruptly, her sharp movement met by the sight of the older woman standing close-far too close. She took a step back, her gaze snapping up to meet those familiar dark eyes, which shined with the same intensity as ever, amusement mingling with a hint of something deeper.
"How many times does a girl need to reject you before you get the hint, Faye?" Yoko asked, arching a brow, a forced smile painting her lips.
Faye merely cocked her head, that infuriating smirk not budging an inch. "You know I can't give up on you, doll. You're my dream woman. Mine."
Yoko's smile faltered, her patience thinning. Her eyes flicked to the clock on the wall-a quarter past eleven. Late. The little bar was emptying, a few patrons drifting out as the bartender wiped down glasses. "It's getting late," she murmured coolly. "You should go home, Faye."
As she turned to leave, a strong arm slid around her waist, stopping her mid-step. Faye's hand rested flat against her stomach, fingers splayed wide, nearly spanning the entire length. Yoko fought to ignore the heat prickling up her spine, the way her heart pounded just a bit faster. She would not let herself buckle.
"Let me walk you home," Faye whispered, her voice low and near, her breath brushing Yoko's jaw. "I'll be good, I promise."
Enough. Yoko shifted and freed herself from the older woman's grasp. She reached into her coat, pulled out a small handgun, and aimed it squarely at Faye's thigh. "I said, go home," she stated, her tone sharper now.
Faye's only reaction was a raised brow, her smirk still there, like she was more entertained than anything. Yoko tightened her grip, feeling her patience snap. Without a second thought, she pulled the trigger. The gunshot cracked through the bar, sending the few remaining patrons scrambling. Faye staggered, pain flashing across her face, but that annoying glint in her eyes didn't fade.
One of Faye's men started to move toward her, his expression alarmed, but Faye held up a hand to stop him, her gaze never leaving Yoko's.
Yoko held her ground, eyes hard. "I don't want anything to do with you nor your 'business'," she snapped, spitting out the word like a curse. "So don't drag me into it." Faye's reputation in town was enough for anyone to steer clear, but Yoko especially didn't like the special treatment she'd gotten ever since Faye decided she was "hers".
"Get it through your thick skull," Yoko added, voice low and tense. "Leave me alone."
Faye chuckled, low and throaty, ignoring the fresh wound in her leg as she leaned back against the bar, looking more amused than offended. "You've got a funny way of saying goodbye, doll," she replied, her voice calm, almost lazy.
Yoko rolled her eyes, holstering her gun as she turned to leave, ignoring the way Faye's men watched her with a mix of surprise and unease. "Goodbye would imply I ever said hello," Yoko shot back over her shoulder, not slowing her stride. She could feel Faye's gaze on her even as she slipped out the door, the adrenaline in her veins finally beginning to ease.

It was reckless, but days later, Yoko found herself back at the same bar where she'd shot Faye in the thigh. The patrons glanced at her uneasily, though none dared to say a word. Some even left as soon as she walked in.
It was exhausting. The locals avoided her as if she carried a curse, all fearing the wrath they might invite from Faye Malisorn if they got too close. Yoko regretted ever returning to this town. She'd lived here as a child and had even called Faye a friend back then. But she hadn't imagined the woman would grow into someone so vile.
