This is for one of my very good friends, Mel.
It was a dark Friday night when Charlotte had just locked up the nursery. She saw Mia stood next to her car whilst scrolling on her phone, waiting for Charlotte.
"See you tomorrow, Marjorie!" Charlotte waves to Marjorie as she walks to her car.
"Bye, my love!" Marjorie responds before opening her car.
Charlotte walks over to Mia. "Hey!"
Mia looks up at Charlotte. "Hey sweetheart, you ready to go?"
"Yes! I can't wait." Charlotte says eagerly.
"Come on then." Mia opens the car door for Charlotte.
Charlotte laughs and sits down. After Mia had shut the door, she walked around to her side and enters the car. She looks at Charlotte.
Charlotte notices. "What?" She says with a chuckle.
"Nothing, it's just that you look really nice." Mia says as she turns the key to start her car.
"Thank you." Charlotte blushes.
-
Once they arrive at the restaurant, they get out of the car and head inside. There was an empty table with black roses in a jug in the middle.
"Hi, can I help you?"
"We have a reservation booked for table 23." Mia says as she holds Charlotte's hand.
"Okay, if you both just follow me please." The waitress leads them to the table with the black roses. "Here you go. The menus are next to the flowers." She walks away.
"Those are black roses!" Charlotte says.
"That is a very good observation, sweetheart. They're also for you." Mia looks at Charlotte's eyes that lit up.
"For me?" Charlotte feels so emotional, even if it's just the little things. "Oh, Amelia. You shouldn't have."
"Of course I did. Now let's sit down and look at the menus." Mia pulls out the chair, gesturing for Charlotte to sit down.
They both looked at the menus and decided on what they wanted to eat. Charlotte ordered the pasta, and Mia ordered the steak; They both had a glass of wine too. The night was filled with laughter, joy, and a lot of chatting.
-
When they had both finished, they had agreed to drive around the countryside whilst it was dark; This is something that they enjoyed doing together.
They sometimes found a carpark and just ran around the fields, acting like teenagers. They only did this when nobody was there and only with each other. Charlotte would do this with anyone close, however Mia would only do this with Charlotte.
Charlotte stood up from her seat. "Shall we go?"
"Of course, sweetheart." Mia said whilst standing up.
Charlotte was about to walk out, but Mia grabbed her wrist. "Huh?"
"Don't forget the black roses." She smiled.
"Oh my goodness!" Charlotte quickly went to take them. "Thank you, Mia."
"No problem. Now, let's go." She said as the pair of them walked to the car.
-
Mia was driving up a hill that led to a very nice spot in the countryside. It was 7:30pm in October, so it was pitch black outside. Charlotte was still holding the black roses from the restaurant.
A few minutes later, Mia parked the car in an empty carpark next to a field filled with different flowers. There were daffodils, red roses, and black roses. Mia turned off the engine, and they both got out of the car.
"Race you to the black roses." Charlotte giggled as she ran ahead.
"Hey, that's not fair!" Mia chuckled as she ran after her.
The 2 of them spent a while running around, acting like young teenagers. They played tag, and hide and seek. They were having the time of their lives. What they didn't notice, was another car pulling up in the carpark. It was Autumn and Winter.
Autumn and Winter often came here to take walks down the path near the field, but they had never seen the other girls. They got out of the car and looked at Mia and Charlotte.
Winter starts to speak, "Is that-"
"Mia and Charlotte." Autumn interrupts. "Yes."
"I never would've thought Mia would act like this." Winter says.
"I did. She used to run around with me and Reece back when we were younger. We used to go to a field near our house and play there for hours." Autumn explains to Winter. "It was the only time we could leave our house. I'm so happy Mia has found someone else to feel happy and safe with."
"And I'm very lucky to have you, my love." Winter looks at Autumn.
Autumn looks back at him. "As am I, my sweet."
She looks back to Mia and Charlotte who are just laying down, side by side on the grass, looking at the stars above them.
Autumn pulls out her phone from her pocket and takes a few pictures of them, without either of the girls noticing. She doesn't usually feel emotion, but seeing Mia happy again made her feel joy. Autumn and Winter went towards the path and walked down it, not bothering Mia and Charlotte.
The 2 girls were laying down on the grass, surrounded by black roses. Suddenly, Mia turned her head and saw the other car in the carpark. "Oh crap." She said.
"What?" Charlotte said, sitting up whilst looking in the direction Mia was.
"There's a car there."
"And?" Charlotte replied.
Mia sighed. "Look who's car it is."
Charlotte squinted her eyes then they widened. "Oh." She said. "It's okay, I'm sure they didn't see us. Besides, we are kind of hidden in the black roses."
Mia chuckled slightly. "You're probably right. Should we get going, sweetheart?" Mia stood up.
"Aww, fine." Charlotte groaned as she got up.

After Mia had dropped Charlotte at home, she got a text from Autumn.
Autumn : Did you have a good evening?
Mia : I took Char out for a meal, it was good.
Autumn : Hm, okay.
Mia : Why?
Autumn : I could've sworn I saw your car in the countryside.
Mia : That was probably someone else.
Autumn : Okay, well I just thought it would be nice for you to see this.
Mia : What?
Autumn : *sends photo* Now, don't get mad. Honestly, I'm happy because you're happy.
Mia : Well, thanks, Aut.
Autumn : Of course, Mia.Mia looked at the photo and realised the black roses were in the shape of a heart around them. She wasn't mad at Autumn for taking the picture, she was grateful that she did. Now Mia has a keepsake of her and her forever person. The picture was perfect. They felt perfect. Oh how they loved black roses.
