Attu Island
North Pacific Ocean
1960
Indy and Emily thudded into the ground. Indy tumbled, rolling quickly off Emily as the parachute billowed downward after them.
He looked over at her and heard - giggling.
The laughter echoed up under the chute - moving outward.
He grabbed Emily. "Why are you laughing? Are you hurt?"
She put her head into his chest giggling. "You landed, Dad. And you can fly."
Indy hugged her. "I love you. I love you so much, Emily. Don't ever do that to me again."
"Pull you out of a burning plane?"
"Just smoldering," Indy grinned.
"Smoldering like the way you look at Mom?" Emily asked.
Lizavet rushed up to them, gathering the parachute and cutting off the lines. "We must hurry! Korotiy is -"
There was a horrific sound of clogged struggling engine careening toward the ground.
"Oh shit," Indy whispered. "That's not the way to land - even I know that -"
The plane slammed into the tundra soil, a plume of smoke billowing from it.
Lizavet screamed, running toward the impending fireball, before Indy could pull her back.
US soldiers stationed at Attu started racing towards the downed plane.
A short figure in a leather jacket and fedora climbed out of the wreckage, spraying himself with a fire extinguisher and then rolling in the dirt, quenching the remaining stubborn flames, catching at his trouser legs and boots.
"Dr. Jones?" A young soldier scrambled up to the man.
Shorty turned around, wearing Indy's fedora, an unmistakable grin on his face and a bloody slice mark across his chin.
Lizavet rushed him.
Shorty swung her into his arms and kissed her.
Indy grinned, putting his arm around Emily's shoulders, watching from a distance. "Couldn't have done it better myself."
Emily looked at her dad. "The landing or the kiss?"
"Sass like your mother, hon. Sass me all you want. We're both alive to laugh about it." Indy chuckled, as Shorty approached, carrying Lizavet and wearing Indy's hat.
"The hat finally fits, kid," Indy grinned.
Shorty set Lizavet down and handed Indy back his hat. "It was the only way I could save it, Dad. I knew you wouldn't want to give it up."
The plane exploded.
