Chapter 6

Hundreds of people turned to watch as Mckeyla and her friends walked right up to Jullian, the prince's assistant, and Darone, CEO of Black star, who were both standing in the front row, waiting for the launch. 

"We stopped you Darone. You and Black Star can't hurt anyone anymore" Mckeyla stated, with as much confidence in her voice as she could muster.

"Your device is toast" said Tessa

"Yeah, burnt toast!" exclaimed Adri

"This is ridiculous. I don't know what you are talking about. Why would anyone believe a bunch of silly little girls?" snapped Darone

"I believe them," Mr. Coyle said, stepping forward. "And it's all true. Every word of it. We've got the device, and these girls stopped it."

"Take him away," George called out as a group of Space Inc. security guards rushed in. They handcuffed Darone and put him in the back of the police car, all the while he was shouting in protest.

"And Julian, all those secret phone calls, how you had the prince leave the safe house–I knew there was something off about you, but I never imagined you could be involved in such an evil plan" Mckeyla said angrier than she had been previously. Jullian was then taken away, never to be seen again.

Prince Xander took that moment to strut over to have a word with the team of girls. "I can't leave without apologizing to you, M. I gave you a hard time from the very start, and you didn't deserve that." he said, turning toward Mckeyla.

"Wow! I don't know what to say...." Mckeyla paused dramatically and smirked back at the prince. "Oh wait, yes I do. You're right. I know what I'm talking about"

"Yes you do" Xander admitted "and despite all the stupid things I did along the way, you and those clever girls still managed to save the world. You're obviously a great leader"

"I try to be a good influence" She said nonchalantly

"Well it worked on them, and it worked on me"

"Oh really? And how's that?"

"You make me want to....read another book?"

"Not a picture book though, right?" She asked, laughing a little.

"No, one with lots of tiny little words"

"Welcome to the smart side. Well, have a safe trip. Enjoy battling aliens with laser swords."

"See you when I get back" he said confidently with a wink, and then walked away to go board his space flight.

Tessa had to admit, that did make her a little jealous. But not because of Xander flirting with Mckeyla instead of her. But because Xander was flirting with her.  The girl she  wanted to flirt with. Naturally, Tessa could barely think straight, let alone flirt, when she was around Mckeyla. As he walked away though, Xander noticed her look of jealousy, and took a silent note of it.

The crowd watched as Prince Xander walked off toward the spacecraft. Music blared. Some people waved glow sticks in the air. Others shouted and cheered, watching as the shuttle rumbled and whirled to life. The launch clock above the podium ticked down. Smoke billowed out from under the rocket. The ground rumbled and shook. The girls had their arms around one another as they stood there, looking up at the sky. Everywhere they turned, people were clapping and cheering. Mckeyla smiled up at the spaceship as it lifted off, the fire propelling it into the atmosphere, far beyond where they could see. She couldn't have imagined a more beautiful sight.
