On looking at his bride Saanvi, who was mesmerizing folks on her way along the aisle, Henry knew. He knew exactly what to vow to Saanvi.
"Nervous?", asked the Minister.
"A little, professor", replied Henry and added "The one I get to go when nervous, is the one, I am gonna live with. This would be the last time, I suppose."
"WAITTT!", a voice from right to the Minister and it continued, "I thought, it was me."Here is a little back story. The voice is Sophie, the best man. Yeah, the best man is woman, in our story. Sorry, where are my manners? I haven't introduced myself. I am Makka, the narrator. And a big YES, I am breaking the fourth wall in written format of story. Pleasure, hearing you. Let us dive into the story. The Minister is a professor of the three. The three are Sophie (the voice), Saanvi (the bride) and Henry (the groom).
"You will be in the list", the Minister laughed.
"As Second?", Sophie snapped and braked at her friend, "I am breaking with you, once the wedding gets over."
"Sure, S...", before Henry could complete, Saanvi arrived and made him speechless. The Minister started. "Good day all! It is no accident that all of you gathered here...." BLAH! BLAH! BLAH! Let us skip some parts. Not that I haven't thought of writing it, but the best part would be the Henry's vow. I hope so.
He started. "I lied and almost abandoned you in our first date."
He paused for a while, and continued his story. Their First Date. The Wet Date.
He was late and couldn't decide what to wear. So, he picked what he had seen first. Poor Choice. His phone rang. It was Saanvi. He attended and rushed to say, "I am on the way". She replied, "Don't worry. I pooled in Uber. It is raining. See you at the restaurant." Kind of relieved that he didn't want to pick her up, he dressed and checked for Uber. To his luck, he couldn't find one. Not able to find one, He decided to walk.
It's a 2 miles walk from his home. He took an umbrella and was ready to face his fear. His fear was rain. He had an accident during rain. Though it was his fault, since then he feared and hated rain. The destination was an Italian restaurant. It was her wish to go for Italian.
On the way, he was blank and little panicked for being late. Hoping she wouldn't have arrived, Henry was shocked to know that he was 30 minutes late and restaurant couldn't hold the table that much long. They waited for 15 minutes. They got one, which was worse, because they booked for aerial view. Anyhow, they accepted.
"Sorry, I was late", Henry said.
"No issues. Rain, right!", she said.
"Yeah, DAMN rain.", he said with a hatred tone.
"I love rain", she snapped, as soon as she heard that.At that point both knew, the date had gone south. There were awkward silence here and there, couldn't make up conversation. It was almost dessert time. Before the dish arrived, he had left for restroom. Looking at the mirror in the room, he assured himself within the dessert time that he had to do something.
He opened a faucet. To his surprise, the water pumped out with large force and wetted his pant. He tried to dry with tissues but in vain. When he had left the restroom, a girl laughed at him, seeing the wet pant. He looked desperate and couldn't think of any way. All of a sudden, he rushed out of the restaurant. He forgot everything. Literally Everything.
His Date. Saanvi. Dessert. His fear. Rain. Umbrella.Drenched in the rain, an idea popped. He stopped. He wetted himself totally in the rain. He got inside with confidence.
"What? Wha.. have you?", she asked.
"I said damn not that I didn't like it.", he replied. The dessert arrived. She smiled. That was her first smile in the date. Henry was relieved a bit.
"I have an idea.", she said.
"Which is?", he asked. They took it out. The dessert. Panettone. She enjoyed eating them in the rain. Henry tried. Then started their best conversations. In the rain. Thus Henry concluded his Wet Date.
"Well, I lied that implicitly that I liked rain. But, now I do. Coming days, you might be sad, weak, frustrated, troubled,.. In those days, I will be the rain for you. To calm. To Hold. To love you.", said Henry.
Thus the only chapter concludes here.
