Most people believe their lives will tend toward a tediously normal existence. However, for Duela Volkmann, this will certainly not apply.
Born a Muggle, she awakened her magic late—at 15 years old, as had never been seen before in the history of magic. After a turbulent journey that included a surprisingly swift duel, she was sorted into Slytherin. Yet...
Her chaotic arrival, a horrendous explicit death, an unexpected apparition—this young witch could find nothing stranger than discovering that, in the depths of her Muggle blood, recently unconnected to magic, there lay a secret. The young Slytherin had a link to ancient magic, a magic so scarcely known and discussed in modern times that it left not only her eager about her prospects and stay at Hogwarts but also Professor Eleazar Fig, who had been studying this ancient magic with his late wife for years.
Volkmann now found herself with Professor Weasley, approaching a dimly lit wall without any trace of a door or painting as was typical in the castle's architecture. The lighting here was somewhat dim compared to the rest of the castle, which was still glimmering and enchanting even at night.
"It's unusual for students to begin in their fifth year. It may be a challenge, but I know you can handle it," said the professor, hoping to spark some dormant confidence in Duela as they continued the conversation they'd been having before reaching the wall.
"I'm quite talented, Professor," she replied confidently, a sly smile brightening her face as ambition shone in her eyes, her body showing her excitement.
"I thought so. This is the entrance to the Slytherin common room,"—Duela looked at the wall with a certain distaste, questioning the professor's sanity, who remained unfazed—"To enter, all you need to do is say the correct password... 'Aspiration.' Simple."
Weasley pointed to the door, her ambitious, eager smile inviting Duela to step forward. Then, in a soft whisper, she announced the password.
A snake emerged from the right corner and swiftly slithered to the left, curving itself and forming a door beneath its arch.
"Well done. Now go ahead and get some rest. Tomorrow, you have a long day ahead. I'll return in the morning to take you to your first class," informed the head of Gryffindor. The young Slytherin, with innocent excitement, smiled, thanked her quickly, and entered so swiftly that her figure was barely discernible to the older woman, who walked away smiling, excited about the new addition despite some reservations about her school performance and the supervision required.
As the young witch entered the common room, her smile grew, and the desire for learning and new experiences that would shape her future in the magical world—certainly anything but tedious or stagnant—lay in wait for her.
She admired the paintings of renowned Slytherins who had graced history, including Merlin, stretching throughout the common room, only interrupted by the decor and large windows looking out to the dark, deep waters of the Black Lake. She admired the grand fireplace, the morbid decor, and the icy atmosphere that harmonized perfectly with the black tones, the unfinished rustic stone ceiling, the dark green shades in the paintings, and the rejuvenating air brought by the luxurious decor. Leather sofas, black tables with books and chessboards, a trophy shelf displaying both House Cups and Quidditch trophies, statues of Salazar Slytherin, and many serpent-like stone decorations completed the ambiance.
Duela made her way to her dormitory, exhausted, with numerous thoughts from her long day racing through her mind, revisiting each chapter of her life story, from her earliest memories to her recent exploration of this new world awaiting her.
