.....

The ride in Faye's car was a dense silence, only interrupted by the soft pounding of the rain against the glass. The streets seemed deserted, lit by the dim glare of streetlights, and everyone outside the car felt like a distant dream. The night was cold, and the atmosphere, peaceful. Inside the vehicle, Yoko tried to stay awake, though the tiredness weighed heavily on her shoulders. After nights of waking up to his studies and employment, his body finally gave in. He knew that his health had always been fragile and that sometimes he forgot about this vulnerability. But that night, on that journey, I had no strength to ignore it.

Beside her, Faye seemed absent, immersed in her own thoughts. The last few months had been a whirlwind of work and pressure; it was his shelter and punishment, a commitment he had made to stifle any other feeling. But that rainy night... something was different. As he walked along the empty road, he felt a calm that had not been experienced for a long time, as if in the shared silence of that car he had found a respite. Though they both said nothing, there was something in Yoko's presence that gave her an unexpected peace, something she had long refused to recognize.

Stopping at a traffic light, one block before Yoko's house, Faye turned her head to look at her. The girl was about to fall asleep, cheek against window, her face softly lit by the flashing reflection of street lights. Faye observed every single feature of Yoko: the long lashes that fell on her cheeks, the soft, half-open lips, the pallor of her skin contrasting with the dark background of the car. She felt trapped in that instant, as if every second was long, and an unsuspected warmth lit up in her chest.

Finally, they arrived in front of Yoko's building. Faye noticed it was more luxurious than she imagined, but she knew that Yoko came from a wealthy family, though that didn't seem to matter much at the time. He watched Yoko for a few more seconds, hoping that she would wake up alone when she felt the car had stopped. But she didn't; Yoko was still sleeping deeply, with soft snoring that filled the silence and drew a small smile on Faye's face. However, he could not stay there all night watching her sleep.

-Hey, Yoko... we're here. Wake up -whispered Faye, leaning slightly toward her. He repeated the call in a low voice, not wanting to startle her.

But Yoko did not react. Faye sighed, massaging her temples as her thoughts attacked her. Why didn't he just help her get a taxi? she wondered, frustrated. After a few seconds, he placed his hand on Yoko's shoulder, shaking her gently.

-Here we are, child! Wake up, she said, this time with a touch of authority in her voice.

After that jolt, Yoko finally opened her eyes, still half-lost in sleep. The first thing she saw were those dark, piercing eyes that looked at her closely, so closely that her breath mixed with Faye's. None of them moved. Both were suspended at that moment, caught in a look that seemed to say much more than anyone would dare to say aloud. The rhythm of their breaths was slowed down, and time seemed to stand still.

Then a beam of light from a passing car lit up the windscreen, and Yoko, startled, leapt back.

-What... what are you doing? - she muttered, with a deep, drowsy voice that sounded a little hoarse, which Faye found unexpectedly captivating.

Faye remained in the same position for a few seconds, until Yoko's warm hand gently pushed her back, breaking contact. Faye looked at her, still not knowing what to say. Finally, she let out a small smile before turning her gaze toward the window.

—Calm down girl, I was just trying to wake you up, you snored like a tractor and you were very comfortable apparently in my car. That you wanted me to take you to your room too. - Faye replied sarcastically, her hand running through her hair and looking straight ahead
