"It took you THAT long?!" Katelyn laughed at me and Gavin upon arriving at the finish point.
"Sorry," I apologized, thinking I missed something important or something.
"You need an extra hand pitching your tent...?" Katelyn sighed as she stared at the tent poles Gavin was holding. We... had to hurry if we wanted to be on the same schedule as every other student.
Gavin yawned and lifted his arms in the air before looking over to me and telling me, "Joey... don't you just love camping?"
"Is this even considered real camping?" I asked him considering that the only camp activities we really did was hiking and setting up a tent. No smores and night shenanigans. But, at least I get to be with Gavin while doing it all...
"Fair point, and it's not everyday that you get to sleep with a hottie like me... Hm?" Gavin walked up to me and whispered into my ear, which I physically flinched at the moment it happened.
"It's not like that!" I replied, with a blush rising.
"AHEM. THE POLES GAVIN!" Katelyn screamed. I laughed as Gavin immediately went over and helped. I went over to the tent base but was admittedly totally lost on what I should do. Katelyn had to guide me as if I was a baby which I didn't like but maybe it was a testament to how much I really need Gavin's help with becoming better at... everything really.
"Does anyone know where Adams went? She was just with us a while ago and said she'd be back by now," I overheard Miss Keisha ask some other teachers during their conversation. Little did they know she was still in the nature trails... because of me. I'm worried for her, I don't know what happened and I just ran away like that.
"You all look off today, everything okay?" Katelyn asked us. However if it wasn't for those horrifying events at the trails, she would've just been making fun of my dilemma with Gavin. Like, no shit we weren't okay. But we weren't okay either, in fact, we were both quite scared.
"No, it's fine you don't need to worry," I said, trying to stop Katelyn from laughing at our problems that seemed totally bogus. Gavin was totally silent and rather reserved in this moment despite his cockiness towards me earlier.
"Alright I guess..." Katelyn sighed and totally knew something was off. My efforts were for nothing, maybe because of the way I phrased my last sentence. Stupid me...
All three of us helped stake the tent, and after that... Me and Gavin ran to the food so fast. We were HUNGRY. I even heard Gavin's stomach rumble a little and I giggled accidentally, hoping he didn't notice.
After getting my food I decided that now would be a nice time to be alone and think about what has happened, so I went into the woods for some serenity in the chaos today has given me. I ate my lunch taking in the nature. This place was beautiful. I was thinking about whether I liked the lakeside view more or the lush trees.
That's when I received a call from my UNCLE. Gee, totally convenient but also inconvenient, I wanted to rest. I accepted and put it on speaker because he was insistent on a conversation about a "recent occurrence." Whatever that meant, I was a bit cautious.
"So who exactly was that boy in the post you were with? Is he your..." My uncle teased, very obviously thinking Gavin was my boyfriend.
"No! Well, I like him, but he's straight-" I sadly told Tim.
"Poor thing, are you sure you can handle being friends even though you like him?" he asked.
I sighed, thinking about the weird connection I have to Gavin, "Well... it's so complicated, I don't know how to explain it but it really was love at first sight, or something. I don't know if maybe I'm obsessed or what. I really have zero clue," I explained.
