"Good to know you're still alive and breathing."
Adrasteia halted her steps as the familiar stoic figure of Levi approached her. She kept her composure calm, refusing to show any sign of surprise or unease.
'Your humor always sounds serious rather than funny,' Adrasteia thought as she met his piercing gaze.
"If you hadn't been injured during the 57th expedition, I could've placed you in my squad," he remarked, his tone flat but laced with a hint of what could almost be called concern.
'I'm glad you didn't or else I wouldn't be able to do much unlike before,' she thought, recalling the events that had happened.
Instead of voicing her thoughts, she simply replied, "I appreciate the sentiment, Captain. But I think my current role suits me just fine."
Levi raised an eyebrow, taken aback by her response. "Most cadets would be honored to be placed in such a squad," he remarked, his voice laced with a mixture of curiosity and caution. "But you seem content with your rank. I don't see that very often."
Adrasteia met his gaze evenly, a slight smirk playing on her lips. "I believe there's more than one way to contribute, Captain. Sometimes, it's about being in the right place at the right time."
Levi studied her for a moment longer, his expression unreadable. "Fair enough. Just remember, complacency can be dangerous. We all have our roles to play, and you never know when you might be needed."
She nodded, recognizing the weight of his words. "Understood. I'll make sure I'm ready when the time comes."
"Fire!" A shout was heard as the cannons started to explode aiming towards the gigantic abnormal titan just below the wall.
As the garrison soldiers failed to kill off the titan, residents started to panic when the huge abnormal stood up, towering over the wall and causing the people within the district to panic.
"The Garrison may step down. We'll handle things from here," Captain Levi reassured.
Adrasteia watched as the scenes unfolded. It felt all too familiar.
The people are in chaos, soldiers all over the place. Everyone's eyes filled with fear and panic. She had seen the same fear from her people.
"Mother! Brother. . . I brought brother with me!" Adrasteia was shaking, crying as she was holding her brother's decapitated head.
Her mother gripped the little girl's hand tightly, pulling her close. The chaos around them blurred into a distant roar, but the image of her son's head burned into her mind.
"Listen to me, my love," she said, kneeling to meet her daughter's wide, frightened eyes. "We have to move. We can't stay here. I promise we'll find your father. He's going to be okay, but we have to go now."
The little girl nodded, still clutching her mother's hand as the other held her brother's head. They began to weave through the throngs of people fleeing in every direction, the sounds of panic echoing all around them. Her mother kept scanning the halls, desperately searching for her husband, a sign of hope amid the chaos.
"Stay close to me!" she urged, her heart racing as she navigated the frantic halls. The world felt upside down; fear surged within her, but she pushed it aside, focusing solely on her daughter's safety.
They were about to make a turn when a titan suddenly appeared in front of them. It was 10 meters tall. It was the first time Adrasteia had ever encountered one.
