"Come on Jack! We have to hurry!" I'm  holding my son's hand, while pulling him behind me. His legs are to small to walk that fast but the banker's wouldn't wait. "Look, we're almost there!"
Washington DC is busy today. Cars are hooting, pigeons flying everywhere and people running in all directions. The sun is shining even though it's cold today. I had to look for Jack's coat this morning.
Saturdays I  never work. It's my day of. Free to spend time with my son somewhere that was not my library. But this Saturday was special. Maybe... Hopefully I could get my money back. The money I had earned during my acting career. The money that was now my mothers, but last month I had finally convinced my mother to try to give it back to me. It's risky, no doubt. But I need the money. I had difficulties to keep my head above water these last few months. Owning a library and a bookcafe didn't give you much money, but I love my job. Only the last few months had ever been challenging.
And now I have a possibility. And I would take the opportunity.
The bank building in front of me, I grow nervous. What if someone recognised me? What then? I didnt know, so it was unnecessary to worry. Gripping Jack's hand I entered the building.
                                                                                                      ♡
I hate traffic jams. It's time consuming and time is valuable. Nothing to waste. My phone in my hand I tried to work, but I couldn't concentrate. Fucking traffic jam! Why did I even come to Washington on a Saturday afternoon? Distracted I watched the people hurrying around. I often wonder what their life looked like. A woman is running with her son toward Washingtons biggest bank. I wondered what she's doing there with her little son, who's feet are barely touching the ground.
Wait a minute? Am I dreaming? Yes of course I a,. I surely just fell asleep in my uber. Ghost don't exist. Dead people are dead. Just to be sure I pinch myself. Ouch!
Fuck. I'm not dreaming. But then how is it possible? I have to know.
Without saying anything I leave enough money for the driver and open the door. Running behind the familiar woman, cars are hooting as I cross the street. Luckily I'm faster than her and I reach the bank only a few seconds after her.
Inside she is already heading toward the elevators, the boy still stumbling behind her. I don't believe it's her son anymore. The woman I knew didn't have a son.
Only 10 meters are left between them when I stopp running.
"Jana?" I ask carefully. I knew it is her when she suddenly stops, freezes in place. "It's really you, isn't it?"
Very very slowly she turns around, unfamiliar brown eyes meeting mine. For a few seconds I think I'm wrong and it's not her, but when I see her face... it really is her.
Fear is written all over her face. She's hiding the boy behind her.
"Were have you been all these years? I thought you were dead? Everyone thinks you're dead!"
"Keep you voice down!" Her once green eyes scan the room for people, who could have heard me. When she sees the clock on the wall she curses and continues her way to the elevators, picking up the little boy.
"Tajana wait! You can't just reappear and then disappear again without teling me anything!" I'm running after her again like some idiot.
"Yes, I can, Xavier. I'm late I have to go." She says, while pressing the button to call the elevator.
"Then a least tell me where I can find you again", I'm beging her. The last time I saw her was four years ago. I wasn't going to let her go.
I hear her sight before she answered me: "Come to the magic library in Dunkirk, but ask for Tina." I'm shocked.
"You're not dead."
"No, I'm not." With that she gone. Inside the elevator and I'm petrified. Questions upon questions flying trough my head. Why did she make everyone believe she was dead?
                                                                                                        ♡
My hand are trembling. Someone recognised me. And of course it was Xavier. It had to be him.
Shit. It had worked for four years, why couldn't it work forever? What was I going to do now? I know Xavier. He's going to show up at the library tomorrow. I think I'm going to be sick tomorrow. I need to think about everything and how I'm going to move on if he knows I'm alive.
He didn't recognised Jack or he wouldn't have let me go. Well, he didn't wanted to go, I left.
It was already like this the last time. He wanted to stay but I left. Today I have a reason to leave. Jack. He needs me. And I don't want him to meet the paparazzi.
The elevator beebs before the doors open. Jack's in my arms looking around. Leaving the elevator behind, I enter the room to get my money.
