Oscar let out a shallow sigh. His eyes darted over the white ceiling of the hotel room. His arms awkwardly lay by his sides and his legs were stretched across the worn mattress. It had been a week since he had first met Sofia. It had been five days since their road trip had begun, and they were officially in Austria. Oscar hadn't been back to Austria since the Grand Prix held there back in June. The weekend had gone well, he'd managed to get himself P2, however it was what followed that made the Australian hate the country of Austria.

Back in June he had decided to stay in Austria for a few days, to celebrate his near victory. But what he hadn't expected was to be broken up with. They had just finished touring Vienna and had just gotten back to the hotel room when Lily had proposed a break. Of course from then forwards the news onwards got worse and they had agreed to breaking up entirely.

So, despite the beauty of Austria, Oscar couldn't seemed to find himself enjoying the country.

Oscar clambered up from the uncomfortable double bed and plodded over towards the balcony — which looked over the beautiful city of Hallstatt. In the corner of his vision lay the large mountains of Salzkammergut. They stood over 2000 metres tall and they were astonishing to look at.

He reached into his sweatpants to grab his phone. Dialling a familiar number; multiple buzzes surged through the phone. It rang a total of four times before someone picked up the call. "Hello?" His mother's voice squeaked. "How are you?" She asked.

Oscar sighed. "I'm in Austria." He softly informed her; skipping pleasantries.

He heard her sigh through the phone. "Oh, Oscar..." Nicole replied sorrowfully. She knew the full story of his breakup with Lily, therefore she knew how being in Austria so soon afterwards would mentally take a toll on him. "Are you okay?"

"I don't know in all honesty."

A moment passed before he received a reply. "Why are you in Austria? Why aren't you back in England yet?"

Oscar shuffled awkwardly in the plastic chair. He blinked. "Erm." His hand subconsciously rose to scratch the back of his neck. The Australians leg began to bounce due to a sudden surge of anxiety. What would his mother think? She had adored Lily.

"You don't have to tell me." Nicole clarified.

A sense of relief flooded Oscar. "Thank you."

The line went dead, however he could still hear his mother's steady breaths on the other side. "Not that I mind, but why did you call me Oscar? You never call me." She asked.

Oscar shrugged his shoulders. He rolled the heel of his bare foot around in circles on the hot floor. His fingers tapped on the glass table beside him. "I-,uh, I don't know. I just...I didn't know who else to call."

"You can call me anytime Oscar."

"I know...thanks."

They sat on the line in silence for a good minute, both peacefully enjoying each other's company. Oscar felt at peace being so close to his mother even if it was across the phone. He inhaled a breath of fresh air and smiled. "Okay, thank you mum, but I'm going to go."

"Of course, ring anytime Oscar, and I'll be here. I'm just one phone call away." A part of Nicole felt like her family hadn't been fully whole since before her only son moved away. Sure she had her three daughters whom she loved dearly, but Oscar had been her first child, her only son. For quite a few years it had just been them; they always say you form a different type of bond with your eldest. And to top it off she never heard from him, compared to her daughters who she saw everyday who all messaged her regularly. He would send her one word replies and that's all she would get. So, when her phone had rang and it was Oscar who was calling her she knew something wasn't right.
