Is This The Real Life? Is This Just Fantasy?

You arrived a little late at the party, and also on your own. Weirdly enough, you notice quite a few of the guests present are YouTubers or Streamers, despite none of them belonging to your (small) circle of friends. Odd, maybe there's a meetup? You don't know. However, as you curiously scan the crowd you notice one person that stands out more than the others. It's DougDoug, a person you've been watching online for some time now. And he's wearing a completely bright red hoodie, which is quite eye-catching, with some white logo or pattern on the front you don't quite recognise. Your eyes meet for a moment, but you quickly look away because you realise you're staring. Embarrassing.

While in the people circle which you've been standing in for a while now, you try to speak up and talk to others, despite being a bit of an introvert, but you end up never fully managing to get included in the discussion or the jokes that formed when you weren't there. Half the time you don't even know what people are talking about, and you don't want to make things awkward by asking. So you stay silent and get phased out of the conversation, slowly but surely.

You try to cling to the friend who invited you (and almost the only other person you know here, too), but it only works for so long in the end. They surely don't want to babysit you all evening, which is understandable. So you excuse yourself and go find a quiet spot. It's probably considered rude to bring work to a party, but you forgot the book you were reading on the nightstand at home and the alternative would be to stare at a wall for the rest of the evening. So you take out your laptop, which you kept tucked away in your sling bag, and a pair of headphones and get to it.

However, it didn't take long for someone to come bother you somehow. Of course, these kinds of things only happen as soon as you find something productive to do.

"What are you doing?" your friend asks casually, approaching you with a drink in one hand, stumbling slightly.

You wave to your earbuds hoping to get the message across that you would like some peace and quiet to focus. Instead, your friend just asks again, but shouting this time in order to be heard over whatever he thinks you're listening to.

You sigh and take out your earphones. "Just finishing something real quick, it's for work", you explain deadpan and annoyed at the interruption.

"What?! Nooo but it's a partyyy! You're supposed to be enjoying yourself!" They're slurring their words a bit when speaking, probably due to the alcohol.

You give them a look and respond. "But I AM enjoying myself. Better than out there at least..."

"Oh..." They start saying, looking disappointed. But they quickly shake the judging feeling away and add, "Well, if you're good then that's all that matters!"

"Thank you", you sincerely tell your friend. They give you a smile and a thumbs up and that was the end of that.

Or it should have been.

Because throughout the next hour, people just kept 'checking in' on you. Most of the time it was your friend, trying to convince you to dance or drink. But sometimes it was nosy strangers who. Just. Kept. Asking. Questions. And after the fifth time of this happening, you can feel yourself starting to get really irritated. After the eighth, you're ready to snap.

That's when you feel a tap on your shoulder.

You sigh loudly, closing your eyes in frustration as you start to take out your earbuds again and stand up to face them, ready to lay into them. "Oh. My. GOD! Does nobody FUCKING UNDERSTAND that I don't wanna be talked to when I'm busy?! Is that too much to ask for-" You cut yourself off after turning around once you realised you weren't giving out to the person you were expecting. Because right in front of you, standing there looking like a deer in headlights, was DougDoug instead of your friend.
