Surprised, he looked at the older man standing unannounced on his doorstep. He looks exhausted... as if he hasn't slept for days, Jeffrey realized worriedly. "Captain... um come in." He greeted his late father's old friend and followed him into the living room. "Aren't your sons home?" Steve asked after looking around. Jeffrey looked down, not wanting to think about where his boys were or what might happen to them there. He sighed and looked up. Steve's tired yet curious gaze was on him. "They're in the field." He gave a terse reply. Rogers nodded. He understood why the younger man wanted to leave it at that. He had seen many young soldiers die and he was aware that it could happen to Cillian and Jensen at any time. The two men stood opposite each other in silence for a while, each lost in their own dark thoughts, until Jeffrey cleared his throat. "So..." He began, looking into the older man's blue eyes. "Where do I get the honor of being visited by an Avenger?" Avenger... echoed Steve. He had learned to hate that word over the last few weeks. If it wasn't for the team, if it wasn't for Loki, if it wasn't for New York, if it wasn't for Megan- he shook his head to clear his mind. "I need your help. Yours and your sons'." Rogers stated, hoping that this decision wouldn't lead to more suffering for his only child, his only family. Dugan nodded slowly, he had suspected that exposing Steve's secret would have consequences. He too had followed the reports on television and the paparazzi's hounding of the girl. "For a few days now, Megan has been getting messages... Threatening, suggestive and always signed with the same pseudonym." The older man's voice grew louder as he spoke and anger sparkled in his eyes. "A stalker." Jeff stated and ran his fingers through his black-gray hair. Again he had to think of his children. He could understand Steve's pain. His sons were grown, his older one was a Marine and Cillian was Special Forces... But Megan.... He could only imagine how scared his friend must be for the girl. "You saved my old man's ass back in Italy. The Dugan family is in your debt, my friend." The younger man said jokingly and saw Steve smiling too. "Whatever you need, I'm here for you. Do you want me to find that bastard and take him out?" Jeffrey asked, ready to fight. Wordlessly, Captain Rogers shook his head and looked at a picture on the wall. He still remembered the day it was taken. How long was the heart? 60 years? It showed a group of soldiers, dirty, tired but with broad smiles on their faces. He missed his old friends. Sighing, he looked from Timothy Dugan's face to his son. Could he really trust Stupid Stupid's son? Could he trust this family with the only thing he had left? Yes, they're the only ones you can trust, Steve realized. "Stark is on to the stalker... I want you to bring your sons home. I've already informed their superiors. I want you to protect my daughter." Jeffrey raised his eyebrows in surprise. He wasn't surprised that the older Tony had asked strongly for help, but the fact that he had already arranged for Cillian and Jensen to return to America made him realize how scared the super soldier must be. At the same time, he was confused by the fact that he hadn't asked shield for personal protection. Why did Steve ask him, of all people, for help? "Wouldn't it have been easier to ask Shield for personal protection? Or put your girl in one of their safehouses?" Jeffrey voiced his thoughts. "No!" Startled, the younger man took a step back and looked at the man standing in front of him with his fists clenched. "I don't trust Shield! I don't trust anyone anymore! Shield knew things!" Rogers shouted, until he realized what he was doing and that the younger man had involuntarily put his hand on the gun in his waistband. Both men were aware that Steve would not attack and Jeffrey would not shoot. But they were also both aware of how much stronger Captain America was compared to the ex-soldier. Embarrassed, Steve relaxed his hands and cleared his throat. It had not been his intention to give free rein to his feelings. "I no longer trust anyone who doesn't bear the name Rogers, Stark or Dugan." He added in a much quieter and more controlled voice. Jeffrey also relaxed and lowered his hand. "Don't worry Cap... We'll do the job. My boys and I will look after Megan. And as long as she has the Dugan's by her side as bodyguards, no one will be able to hurt her." Dugan promised.
