The morning after their return, the trio was met with a mixture of relief and curiosity from the Avengers. Natasha, Clint, and Bruce gathered around them, each one eager to hear the story of the mission that had left them so battered.
As they settled around the room, Peter leaned back, feeling the familiar ache from his injuries. Tony and Steve exchanged glances before Tony began recounting what happened.
Flashback
The mission had started as a standard intel-gathering operation on a rumored Hydra cell. They anticipated moderate resistance, but soon realized they were up against something far more dangerous. Their enemies were prepared and armed with new, powerful weaponry designed to target even the Avengers’ strengths.
The trio fought hard, relying on years of experience and teamwork to navigate the onslaught. At one point, they were surrounded on all sides, explosions ringing out around them. Peter darted in and out of the firefight, using his agility to pull Hydra agents away from Tony and Steve.
Flashback ends
“I thought we had them for a second,” Tony said, rubbing his temple as he remembered the chaos of the battle. “But then they brought out this energy weapon, and everything went downhill fast.”
Peter nodded, his gaze distant as he replayed the memory. “One of the blasts hit me full force. Threw me halfway across the battlefield. My Spidey sense warned me, but there wasn’t enough time to fully dodge it.”
Natasha’s eyes narrowed. “You’re saying it bypassed your Spidey sense?”
Peter nodded grimly. “It didn’t block it exactly, but it was fast enough that by the time I sensed it, I couldn’t react. I was lucky it wasn’t a direct hit to my chest.” He pulled up his sleeve, showing faint burn marks on his arm where the blast had grazed him.
Steve chimed in, a soft sigh escaping his lips. “Peter took that hit so we could move in and take down their command post. We knew if we didn’t eliminate their leader quickly, the fight would just keep going.”
He winced, recalling the moment he was forced to his knees, one arm already injured from a previous skirmish. “I took a few hits myself, one in the shoulder, but I kept moving. We had to, or we wouldn’t have made it out.”
Tony’s face hardened as he recounted the moment he’d turned to see Peter pinned down by two Hydra agents. “I saw them closing in on him, and my suit was damaged. I couldn’t fly, couldn’t use my repulsors—nothing.”
Clint, listening intently, shook his head in awe. “And you just went in, even without the suit?”
Tony nodded. “I did what I could. But then another explosion went off. That’s how I got this lovely souvenir,” he said, pointing to the gash on his forehead.
Peter clenched his fists, the memory of the sounds, the pain, and the desperation still vivid. “After I got free, I went back for them. I wasn’t going to leave my dads out there, not like that.”
Bruce, who had been silently absorbing the story, glanced at the trio with admiration. “You saved each other.”
Steve’s gaze softened as he looked at Peter and Tony. “That’s what families do.”
They all sat quietly for a moment, the weight of the story settling over them.
Natasha placed a hand on Peter’s shoulder. “You did well, all of you. But next time, don’t leave without telling us. We’re a team, remember?”
Peter managed a small smile. “Yeah… next time, we’ll be sure to bring backup.”
Tony nodded, pulling Peter and Steve closer. “As long as we’ve got each other, we’ll face whatever comes. Together.”
