Prologue

Every day it was the same, well not exactly, it was a different race, a new near-death experience, and from time to time, you won.

Sometimes, it was not with the same people, not exactly the same team, since I wasn't in the main one, but she was.

Blue and Purple were the couple of the game, everyone rooting for them, hoping they made it together. Dark Green was... How can I put it gently... The maniac, but we called him the psycho or the asshole for making our lives a living hell. Yellow was like the child of the group, always clumsy, always falling and hurting himself, but still, he always went back in the game, unafraid of death. I remember helping him a lot and holding my tears when I couldn't. White was always terrified, trying to avoid death, but it's not something you could do easily in our world. Red was reckless, always doing backflip and stuff, sometimes even when it wasn't necessary, but he loved it, and he even taught others to do it to survive, so nobody found the strength to stop him, even when he caused his own death. Orange was either killed by Dark Green, or killed him for revenge, let's just say they did not get on very well.

And then, there was her... Pink... In the middle of that chaos that was our lives, she chose to dance.

That was her way of surviving, she dodged the dangers with grace and elegance, and she won, so many times. She was kind, sweet, supportive. She helped Blue when he lost Purple, and she helped me when I could not find the strength to go on.

I guess, that's when I fell in love with her.

And I was ok with just being behind her, like her shadow.

Hi, I'm Black by the way.

I was on the back-up team, with Grey, Lime, Cyan, Dark Blue, and Magenta. Sometimes other colours would arrive, but they did not last long, usually got killed by Dark Green, so I didn't remember their name. Our job was to make more suspense, if they were more members, then there were also more bets.

But as the back-up team, we were less trained, it was rare when one of us won. We all wanted to join the main team, for distinct reasons. At first, I didn't want to, it just felt more dangerous.

But after that race in the haunted house, I just watched her dance the whole time, and it carried me, motivated me to continue, that's the first time I won, because I wanted to see her dance as much as I could.

That was my reason, but you may ask yourself, why did we compete in the first place? Why would face death so many times?

Well, it was not a choice. All of us, no matter our team, we shared one common thing, we were kids without family brought to this place, the Centre, raised by Them, and with one mission: racing.

Again and again, the best of us were in the main team, they had privileges, like special training, and better houses. And if you won one hundred times in a row, without dying, then you could join society outside of the Centre, you could stop racing.

Nobody ever did it, but we all dreamed about it.

Well, except Dark Green, he genuinely liked this game and pushing everyone, I told you he was a psycho.

We didn't even know what the outside world looked like, nobody remembered what our life was before we entered the Centre, there was only one thing we knew, we could get a name. Stopped being just a colour, a finally be a real human being. That was our dream, and we were ready to fight for it. At least some of us.

I didn't care honestly, too much effort for something you're not even sure of having, but if Pink wanted it, then I was ready to follow her until the end.

This is our story, and I'm writing it down for her.

__________

Writing a fanfiction about stickmen race was NOT on my 2024 bingo card.

But here I am, I guess... So let's begin: Hi everyone! I'm Ellie, I'm usually a French writer, currently writing Fairy Tail fanfiction and original stories, but I'll guess I'll focus on whatever this story is for a while, since I'm having writer's block anyway... If one day I'll figure out how to post on AO3, then I will also publish it there.

English is NOT my first language, I'm studying it but I still make mistakes when writing it, so if you see any errors, feel free to tell me, I'll correct them.

I honestly don't know how many chapters this fic will have, keep in mind I saw a comment on Tik Tok requesting a fanfiction on Black and Pink and I was like: I'll do it! So I'm still gathering ideas as we speak, doing world building, etc... I'm sure it's going to be fun ! Well for me at least.

Anyway !

Love you guys 🫶
